Did I see right, all back orders for powercolor cards should be furfilled next week, I was 61,last time I checked. Surprised 11 ppl cancelled but I suppose they must've. Thanks for the good news. Any chance I could change my shipping address? I'm not currently at there and won't be for a little while,

Thanks

I would recommend speaking to customer services mate, raise a ticket or phone them. I don’t think you will have much joy asking via the forums.

You will need to speak to CS and also prove it is you, as due to order numbers been posted on forums I informed CS to not allow any address changes for security reasons.

Hi mate,
Yeah in benchmarks or games the gpu temps start OK, both around the same temp 30ish and fan at 0.

The temp continues to rise along with the fan speed (normal)
Within a min the gpu temp levels out at 60/70 degrees ish.

The hotspot and fan speed continues to climb until it hits 110degrees, and fan speed hits max around 2900rpm. (I'm getting like a 40 degree difference in gpu and hotspot temp)

the frame rate becomes erratic once the gpu fans max / hotspot maxes
In warzone 2.0 The 180/190 fps max, drops by about 30fps or so and dances around 150/160fps.. With the fans blasting full.
(my trio 6950xt was getting around 130fps with the same settings)

I've undervolted to 1080 (-0.70 mv) set the max clock speed from the default 3050 down to 2600mhz, it takes a bit longer to reach max fan speed and 110 degrees but still happens.

No crashes/artifacts.. only when I'm undervolting to bring the temps down.. GPU just throttles the framerate /clockspeeds due to temp saturation on the hotspot.

Case is a meshify C, 3 fans at the front blowing in, 360mm AIO taking heat out the top and fan at the back, does the same with case open.
I've reinstalled windows fresh just to make sure it's not a conflict driver, but no difference. Re seated the gpu, looked around it for anything untoward and cannot see any problems.

Had a look around forums and doesn't seem to be the norm with other reference models.

Not going to attempt to repaste it as OcUK will void the warranty?

I'm also having a similar issue. Case is a Fractal Torrent so there's plenty of airflow. It starts of okay with the hotspot and GPU temps within 15c of each other. The GPU temp then goes up to about 63-65c while the hotspot just keeps climbing all the way to 110c and the fans to 100%. I've tried undervolting which helps but it just seems to delay the inevitable.

@Gibbo - I don't want to touch the card for warranty reasons. Shall I just return it? Disappointed, but I can always use my 6900XT for now until the 7900 XTX stocks improve.

I've seen quite a few posts on twitter and Reddit of unhappy people with exactly same complaint. Will probably get ironed out in a card revision

My reference 6950 XT does that in stock settings and it’s a replacement card.

In the end, I have undervolted, overclocked and added a custom fan profile… it will bench the same or slightly better on these setting with lower temps.

Regarding the temp issues, I'd suggest you check with different orientations. It seems like the reference 7900 XTX cards (got the Sapphire one) are very sensitive to orientation. I've posted my test results for different orientation in this thread on AMD official community forum.

Tldr; I was also hitting 110 degC junction temp in gaming loads very easily but having the fans facing up dropped that temp by 32 degrees (!!!) to 72 degC. Fans facing down (traditional orientation) is fine too, albeit slightly less effective. Also, fan noise is night and day!

just set a test running then squeeze the card a bit and see if temps drop, shouldnt have to stand your case on its head to make it run correctly

Not trying to say that's acceptable. Just something I realised but that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere yet. Could just be my card to be fair but since several people have experienced the hot junction temperature issue here, I'm curious to see if orientation is the culprit for then too.

@YeahBunny it is advised not to post you're order number on forums but instead private message them directly to staff members at overclockers UK @Gibbo for example

If you don't get a response in the time frame you want I've found that getting them over a phone call to be the most informative. you might be one of the people in a queuing system. Better than not getting a card I'd say, least you know one will be on its way.

So i looked some of AMD's claims on performance. Interesting here: second-generation raytracing technology that provides up to 1.8X higher raytracing performance than AMD RDNA 2 architecture3.

Footnote 3, they're using different underlying platforms which makes a large difference: "RX-839 – Testing done by AMD performance labs as of 10/30/2022, on a test system with a Radeon 7900 XTX GPU, Ryzen 9 7900X CPU, 32GB DDR5, MSI X670E Ace motherboard, Win 11 Pro vs. a similarly configured test system with a Ryzen 9 5900X, a Radeon RX 6950 XT GPU, a ASRock X570 Taichi motherboard, using the 3DMark SpeedWay application, testing the following titles: Cyberpunk 2077 (3840x2160), Dying Light 2 Staying Human (3840x2160), Fortnite Saving the World (3840x2160), Minecraft Bedrock Neon District RTX (3840x2160). System manufacturers may vary configurations, yielding different results. Performance may vary."

Given we know that RT hammers the CPU even at 4k, it's a deliberate choice to boost the numbers.

No more queue positions will be given now as I’ve just secured stock to cover all back orders after Christmas. :)

I’ll make an official update this afternoon. :)
Any chance of securing an extra few for the RMA returns? It's looking like few others on here have the same problem with these cards.

No worries if not, I'll just have to wait for a 4090 FE to come into stock. Usually every week.
