***** AMD RX 7900 SERIES AVAILABLE & IN STOCK TODAY FROM 2PM ****(BACK ORDER UPDATES WITHIN THIS THREAD)*

I’ve seen how close the 7900 XTX is to my 4090, RT aside, the 4080 will never keep up with it. Log it now.

Nitro looks hella fast in the Guru3D review.

Maybe next year if I am feeling flush I will get one. Or wait until the inevitable end of line sale.

Really competitive with the 4090 in plenty of scenarios though.

I can see the argument for sure. I’m just a bit of an AMD fan boy I suppose. And in the end I just really fancy trying a 7000 card out. I also love the smaller size of the MBA cards. Don’t have to worry about the new 12 pin connector, don’t have to worry about the size of my mATX build etc etc.

Plus, 300 quid is a lot of money to me to be honest. It’s not an insubstantial amount. That’s a CPU upgrade.
Yes understand, usto prefer Radeon myself. Even had the previous 7900 series, 7970 Ghz edition iirc :)

I’ve still got a pair of 7970 Asus Matrix / never selling. 3 slot cards, absolute beats.

Part of me was REALLY hoping AMD would release a 7970 this generation. Come on AMD, give us that 7970XTX :D

I'm hoping for a 7950 XTX up ahead. Not only to match the 7950X CPU I now have, but because I formerly had the HD7950. :)

HD series was my absolute favourite GPU’s I think.

I’ve collected quite a few of them now at this rate. Also got a pair of HD 5970’s - Quad Crossfire :D

HD 6000 was a bit of a let down, but the 5000 and 7000 were really outstanding cards and some of the outright fastest of their generation. HD 7000 also remained really competitive for years, heck the 7950 and 7970 can still ‘game’ at entry level settings on some games to this day! Which is quite amazing when you think about it. The GTX 780 and 680 meanwhile just seemed to get slower as time went on.

Classic fine wine.

Would be interesting to see where an OC 7900 XT comes that has 3x 8-pin connectors as at around a grand they could perform around a 4080 with decent OC and match a reference XTX card maybe in some games.

Does look like these cards (both the XT and XTX) respond well to power.

I still think if AMD had launched the XT at 799 it would have been an incredible knockout compared to anything Nvidia currently have. Despite that, I still bought one - doh!

£799 was request pre launch but denied and judging by the sales £899 is here to stay for a while.

Guess will be how 4070Ti impacts XT sales but if they are both priced same I’d be taking a 20G card every time over a 12G one personally.

Given the XT is doing pretty good numbers at 1080/1440 compared to a 4080, I think the 4070Ti might struggle to comprehensively beat the XT outside of RT. And like you say, it’s got substantially less ram. And realistically with the price of the 4080, I can see the 4070Ti being a 900-1000 card easily?

Hi all. Apologies if posting in wrong place, however I'm looking to upgrade my old 2070 and got a bit of a dilemma, whether to go with 6950 xt, which I can pick up at the moment for around £750, or go for sapphire reference 7900xt...

Looking at the benchmarks, it seems that they are pretty much on par? So is there a point in picking up 7900xt if performance is the same but the price is £150 more?

I'm also currently on 1080p monitor, which I hope to upgrade to 1440p in the near future.

Thanks for your advices!

Guess it comes down to how much that 150 difference is worth to you. Good arguments can be made either way - the 6950 is still an amazing card.

The XT is faster in some circumstances, often it has much improved minimum frame rates. In some games it’s quite a lot quicker. In others it’s about the same.

It has more ram, it uses less power and it has better RT performance.

I think there’s also the chance that the performance will improve once AMD figure out the architecture better. If you look at the specs, even the XT is quite a lot better than the 6950XT.

For example, memory bus of 320bit instead of 256. Substantially better bandwidth at 800GB/s compared to 576. More compute units and stream processors.

Personally, I think it is (on balance) worth the £150 extra. But that’s still a lot of money so I can see why someone would opt for a 6950 for sure.

If you look at 1080p the XT is really fast - sometimes quicker than a 4090, though this may well be down to the CPU bottleneck - but it’s still a reality with current CPU’s. Even at 1080p and 1440p the RT performance is brilliant.

Thanks for the guru3d link, superb informative review.

POWERCOLOR RED DEVIL GPU GETS AN EK-QUANTUM VECTOR² WATER BLOCK

@Gibbo Do you know anything about a Sapphire Toxic 7900 XTX?

Alphacool are releasing a block for it (apparently) so has me curious.
