AMD RX 7900 XT/XTX Upgrade discussion

I wouldn't be buying any of these cards at the moment. Certainly not the MBA cards (or any others with two 8 pins). seems like there are a few too many issues currently that will no doubt get sorted eventually. That idle power usage is shocking as is the memory temp.

Look at reviews. I think the Hardware unboxed showed total system power around 550.

So a 650 watt should be enough. I personally would go with Gold 750watt minimum.
I have an EVGA Supernova 750W gold PSU and ordered a 7900XTX if I will have a problem with it i will let you know guys.

I have the same PSU, but I don't know what I did with the extra PCIE cables as I'm only using 2 currently. :(
Bought a phanteks 1000w PSU for tomorrow just in case.

I was psychologically preparing myself for £900 to vanish from my account yesterday planning to get at 7900XT. But those idle time power consumptions have made me hold off. I mean, it has to be a driver bug right? But I don't want to buy until I know there's a fix.

Other thing is what I'd heard people say that the pricing of the XT didn't make sense compared to the performance gap with the XTX but I'd just taken an attitude of "it's good enough for me, I'm not going to pay more just because". But now I've seen just how large that gap is - oh my goodness!

Just installed and updated Windows 11 on my new 7950X build that's been sitting dormant for a couple of weeks waiting on a GPU, looking forward to get it in fighting form.

Should probably get the PCIe power cables routed this evening so all I have to do is slot in the card and install video drivers tomorrow!

The owners thread will tell a tale. If it's at one user like the 4080 owners thread is one month after it was created, then we know they didn't sell very well.
I think buying the 4080 carried a level of shame with it so many that bought one kept it quiet whereas people buying the latest AMD cards seem to be quite happy with overpaying.

Maybe people have finally had enough of Nvidia and want to buy AMD instead despite the fact their offers are not much better in price/perf.

Yup funny how people are shaming ones who buy a 4080 but don't use the same brush for people buying the 7900xt/xtx.... ;) Even though a 4080 is arguably a better buy if paying similar money, must be the usual "amd good, Nvidia bad" reasoning

Both products should be shamed and no one buying at 1+k

Both company's greed the reason why we have now around £1000+ 80/900 class tier cards.

Currently have a Gigabyte 2080ti and decided to go Team Red this time and went with a 7900XTX.

I typically skip a generation anyway so the performance up-tick is decent (560ti > SLI 770 > 980ti > 2080ti), and the AMD card seems to be giving the rasterisation performance I'm looking for. Not an RT gamer, so that's not important to me which ruled out a 4080/future 4080ti.

These are awful value, just like the 4080. Shame as I'd have been all over an XTX if it was <£800.

Is it though. The 6900xt was touted to be a £999 card. It wasnt for a long while. The 7900's are touted to be the $899/$999 but are a bit over this tax/doller rate as normal and we were looking at £1100 for the MBA which its actually hit.. The 4080 is double the 3080. Value wise its not awful compared to previous gen. You need to put some context.
