AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

here you can see in CS:GO 3600 beats 5800x3d by 6fps at 4k
Dying light - 3600 wins by 1 fps
Far cry 6 & Gears 5 both chips are equal
It's pretty dumb to try measuring the differences between CPUs in such a heavily GPU constrained 4k benchmark, that's not a typical resolution that other media outlets will test at when benchmarking CPUs so you'll have to do with some 1440p & 1080p results, like those from GN.
CS:GO, 1080p, 5800x3d beats a 3600 by 109fps
CS:GO 1440p, 5800x3d beats a 3600 by 104fps
Far Cry 6, 1080p, 5800x3d beats a 3600 by 68fps

Once the new zen4 x3D is out Intel wont have a reply for years.
Gonna be a treat
You need the new 7950xtx if you play 4k anyhow.

Link below indicate thats at 4k the 5800x3d beats the 3600 by a mere 8fps across a 20 game average. Is 8fps worth £350?

There are numerous other reviews and videos with similar results if you care to do your own research but it seems it's only worth upgrading to the x3d if you play very old games (there is less fps difference between the chips in games that came out in the last couple of years ) or play at 1080p.

Ultimately it depends on what games you play and what resolution, but I maintain my argument that it makes more sense to put such a large amount of money towards a new graphics card than this chip.

Don't be a sheep ...
This has to trolling. No one is this stupid. Comparing 4K results that are obviously going to be GPU bound. Do we really need more trolls here.

At its price (closing In on £300) the 5800x3d is excellent value when compared to the newer offerings from both camps.

TBH, feeling much the same now, been looking at what is coming out and there is sweet f all between now and end of next year and most of the stuff I will be playing will be RT so far more GPU bound, not to mention, the only game I am playing atm is uncharted so already pushing well into the 100s. That and my 5600x undervolts to -30 across all cores with pbo so it's pretty much a golden sample.

According to this averages at 1440p with a 3080 the difference is 8%.

So really I'd say any one with a 5600x + chip the upgrade is not worth it.

It's tempting as it's on sale. But that's just marketing.

It's only £70 cheaper than a 7700x. (I know we need new board and ram too)

Agreed. If I was an existing Zen owner, the X3D would be the immediate play. You can comfortably sit back and see what MTL and Zen5 have to offer. Likely go even beyond that.

Outside of a unique case like high hz gaming with a 4090, X3D is the smart play.

If anyone does make the jump from a 5600x I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. ;)

I do feel like I can't be bothered to take the pc apart though.

Also next year we will get a Zen 4 refresh.

Is it really worth buying further in to the AM4 platform?

I just purchased a 5800X3D, using PBO2 Tuner made quite a difference, setting all cores to -30 CO got me to 14,500 points in CB23 from just over 12K points, theres pretty much nothing to set in the bios, most of the options disappear, ive just set PBO to enabled, if you start inputting manual setting for PPT, EDC, TDC etc then you sacrifice performance for it, so just set enabled or auto, im hitting 81oC under water with fans on completely silent whilst stress testing.

I brought mine from elsewhere, it came with Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, a tube of MX4 extreme and Norton 360 bundle all in at £350 with the extra's coming in around £80, you're talking £270 for the chip, not bad....

I did think there was something wrong with my chip and had to hunt around for the answer, the top speed was 4.45ghz, but found out thats the max for multicore, the 4.5ghz is just for single core workloads (tested)

4.55Ghz for 1-2 core workloads, 4.45Ghz for 3 core or higher workloads.

I bought the 5800x3D, and at 1080P it does seem a lot faster in games and smoother. GTA V seems smoother, in fact many games seem better. I have an RTX 3070 MSI Suprim.
However, it feels a tad slower in Windows. Not sure if this is because of lower clock speeds, or something else.

Ive been monitoring my cpu using Ryzen MAster, but it only seems to be hitting 4.25Ghz in Cinebench 23 runs. It's cooled on a custom loop and is occasionally hitting the 90c limit. I've tried the PBO2 at -30 and it doesnt make any difference to the highest clocks (i can see power usage drops though). Is there something i'm missing?

Mine was doing the same, set LLC to auto in the bios, I take it you've used PBO2 Tuner to reduced the CO ? mines doing between 4.3 and 4.4ghz in CB23 now, these chips dont need any tuning at all in the bios, leave everything at auto except for PBO to enabled, its in the AMD CBS - NBIO Common Options - XFR Enhancement, ive also got both CPPC and CPPC Preferred Cores enabled, and configure your RAM how you want it, ie XMP.

The only 2 voltages I changed in the bios was the SoC to 1.100v (basically the memory controller) and my RAM voltage itself to 1.45v which it requires to run at 3800mhz CL16.

I did this move, I gained 30-40fps in the new MW2 at 1440p with a 6950XT.
I think its an excellent CPU, low power draw and more than capable of feeding the fastest GPU's

Hi, thanks for the info. The PBO setting doesn't seem to be there in my bios, but it seems to be working correctly today.

5800X3D vs 5800X on a 4090 at 1080/1440/2160P, pretty big differences.
