AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

FCLK aka infinity fabric, CPUs won't run 1:1 with MEMCLK (memory clock) and UCLK (memory controller clock).

FCLK 2133MHz seems reasonably attainable, each step above is a better sample. This is based on what I've been seeing on various forums and the 9600X I have been toying with. Even at FCLK 2000MHz I can't see big losses in performance in limited things I looked at.

its the same with every new product released.

There is never enough stock vs demand to make scalping not worth it

Wait until the end of the month when the 50 series gpus come out, they will be on ebay within minutes at stupid prices

Yes, one way or another, people are just taking all the fun away.

But then the market is now being led by hype and people who are prepared to pay anything to be first.

I had the same view ref price and went for a 7800x3d instead for a near 200 saving
Yep, I jumped on 7800X3D near the bottom when I bought at £320 (which I did at 9x00 release after seeing how poorly they reviewed). I think a lot who had been holding out for 9000 series release did the same, thus quickly sucking up the available supply of 7800X3Ds and the price rapidly rising as a consequence.

9800X3D at £540 is mental.

I'm pretty sure that one of the changes of expo was to force MEMCLK=UCLK. I'll have to get a screenshot of it. I had my DDR4 dark pro 8-pack edition memory @ 3800MT/s up from 3600 but long term it proved unstable. I wouldn't mind just trying if I can lower to cl 26 or 28 from cl 30 but I don't have the will to optimise each setting, and I don't have a guide like last time from techpowerup!
Sorry, as I think gupsterg pointed out, I meant FCLK. In short, you can force Fabric Clock to run 1:1 with your single channel speed of 3GHz. Should give a noticeable uplift at the same memory speed.

Appears AMD were caught out by how poorly the competition performed, hence the short supply. Interesting to know that the 8 core X3D parts outsell the higher core count models by 10 to 1.
What is interesting is that AMD are increasing production on x3d chips to match the unexpected demand but it takes time to filter down to the market so maybe in six months the market will be awash with them and demand has fallen because everyone who is desperate for one will have bought one then prices will fall to more reasonable levels

On my system the best I get is -20 on core 0 #1, core 4 #1, core 2 #2, the rest -25, +200. That passes all stress tests I've tried. I only realised -30 all core, +200 was failing after running y cruncher - prime95, occt and cinebench would run for hours no problem.

I’ve been amazed at how long it has been out of stock for, with prices rising almost daily in some cases. I am curious as to when it will actually hit MSRP.

How much is a 9800x3d usually?

Thinking of getting one later this year. With RAM and a mobo, looking at about a grand. Looks like I need to get saving. Although the increases from the 5700x3d don't seem to look massive.
IMO the gains of a 9800X3D aren't big enough % to justify outlay for platform change cost, unless you can recoup most of it from sale of old parts.

How much is the performance boost?

I haven't yet got the 9800X3D running in my main rig with 7900 XTX so I can't give you a comparative on that basis. But I don't think I was CPU bottle necked in games I play and usage experience maybe no different. A gaming benchmark maybe better if and when upgrade GPU. My purchase decision was based on plan stated below and post you quoted was based on TPU review.

Hope so, ... maybe optimistic, but hopefully it'll hit the £300ish price point which the 7800x3d was at last summer. Or more realistically £400... would be an easier sell for more people at that price point.

Yes, that's really way over the top. But then I suppose it just goes to show the power of hype! Even at that price they are selling out. It's holding me back, though. No matter how I try, I just can't see it as a £540 CPU.

9800X3D is a great buy for £450 - I think by March it'll be back down to this level or possibly £430 with a free game.

At £540 it's just too close to 9950X3D price, which is a 16 core beast and on a different level.
