AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

From a gaming perspective...

7600XT is £299.99, 7800XT is £419.99, not even gonna do the math about how much better a 7800XT is than a 7600XT in terms of performance.

GPUs get this rep all the time of being overpriced and negligible performance gains, people in here going crazy they cant get hold of a chip that is about 5-8% faster in gaming (With a 4090..) than a chip that was £300 2 months ago...
This is a really good post and the 7600XT to 7800XT upgrade really puts it into perspective.


7800XT is 62% faster. :cool:

My first sample arrived. SP112, possible indication of not the strongest cores. That said, appears to have a nice strong IMC. 8300C34 low VDD tune right off the bat looking good.

I did some benchmarks on Cyber and FC6 on my 9950X before I pulled it out last night, so will have something to compare to.
First bench for you degenerates.

Some Cyberpunk 2077 results, first run on a 9800X3D. Turbo mode disabled.

9800X3D SMT On Partially Tuned: 379.31 FPS

9950X SMT Off Fully Tuned: 315.13 FPS

Note: SMT Off for the 9950X is beneficial to performance in Cyberpunk 2077.
Final result of tuning, forget running high memory frequency on single CCD X3D, focus on running MCLK/UCLK in 1:1 mode and as high as it'll go, with FCLK also running as high as it'll go.

If you get lucky, you'll get 6800Mhz + 2200Mhz FCLK. 6600Mhz should be more easily achievable now. Failing that, 6400Mhz.

Of course you need to test everything for stability, so don't try and blindly copy my settings etc.

Quick and dirty tuned, low volts 8000 C36 on an Asus B650E-E
This is not a top end ram kit, just a very ordinary Teamgroup T Create 6400 48gb kit with Hynix 24M die IC's. No fan blowing on them, nothing.


I agree with Matt, my 6400 1:1 tune smokes this.
Just remember not every CPU, Motherboard and ram kit will do these speeds.
If you are not a tweaker, play it safe with a 6000 / 6200 CL28 or CL30 kit.

Not sure if my ram (CL30 6000 GSkill) will run that high. With my 7800X3D, I tried to get 6400mhz many times, but could never get it stable. Even at 6200 it was very rocky and threw errors.

Finally got it stable at 6000 CL28 gear down disabled and very tight subs.

Depends on the IMC and individual chip I suppose, but going by my experience with the 7800X3D and my ram, I’d be surprised if I got 6400/6600.

Is it really worth trying to get more than 6000CL28 with gear down disabled? I’m more than willing to tinker etc if it is, but not sure if it is overall.

A 6000CL28 configuration with tight sub-timings and GDM disabled is promising. You might squeeze out a bit more performance by running at a higher frequency, but it's all about finding the right balance to see what your memory and CPU are capable of. I'm utilizing a binned Hynix A Die kit, so your results may differ.

Yeah, did seem a bit strange that I couldn’t really get 6200/6400 stable but achieved it with gear down disabled and very tight at 6000 lol. Guess that probably points to the IMC or chip itself having a limitation rather than the ram.

Was just going to apply my current settings to the 9800X3D and see if it’s stable, but if there’s really benefit in going higher, then I’ll try it. I enjoy memory tuning.

Will be interesting to see if the new chip allows me to get the ram higher.

Mine is M-Die.

Maybe. It would probably work with the right combination of timings, voltages, and resistances set in the BIOS. You just have to know what to set and which timings to slacken off. Comes with practice. I’d be amazed if you couldn’t do at least 6200C30 with a little patience.
