The 4870 is only meant to be a mid range card i think so if sli is working properly i think gx2 will be faster but if sli ain't working then the new 4870 should be much faster than a gx2. The thing is nobody knows nothing yet so we may be in for a shock good or bad. There is leaked info on ati next gen architecture suposedly out at the end of the year if the specs on that are true then they will be back on the high end scale again. Basically all we know from all the sites over the internet may be true maybe not so until some concrete info comes in we really don't know anything concrete.
 
Basically RV770 is a core with twice as much shader power (1.5x the amount of shaders and they're running at 1.5x what they were on RV670) as rv670, twice as much texturing power (32 TMUs compared to 16 on RV670) as RV670 and trucks of extra bandwidth thanks to GDDR5. I wouldn't get too thrown off by its 'midrange' tag IMO.

well im sure like his and other distributor company's might change coolers on rv770 and pro but how ever i dont think they will bother with r700 like with 3870x2 they did not receive any custom coolers i think
 
4870 XT is the 9800 GTX competitor

Hmmm, really hope not too. Paper specs suggest the original 25%+ claim would be a bit more realistic, and the fact they should be a lot more overclockable than nvidia's offerings.
 
im still waiting for proper benches and confirmed clock speed. pencil mod is great .great potential overcloking faster then 3870x2 and for US $ 329 should be deadly card.
 
It could have a little truth in it being around the performance of the 9800GTX. The reason I think it might be true is that it could end up 50% to 75% cheaper than the 9800GTX. Then you can go and buy a GTS 512mb for nearly the same price though? :confused:.

Sit back, sup some of your favourite alcohol and wait til they come out.
It's only a few weeks now, the samples will be out to all the usual companies well before then and they'll be butchered to bits to see what they'll give.
Saving me all the hassle.
