AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Tom that is without aa, aa for WIC on tweaktown was under the High Quality AA/AF section, where they benched at 2560.

I found a World in conflict test with everything maxed to compare to the 4850 xfire results

This puts he HD4850 xfire around 2FPS lower than the 280 on average and slightly above the GX2. Also bear in mind the 4850 crossfire uses 4xAA but there is no mention of AA in the tweaktown review..

Not easy trying to compare score from all these different systems. Most of the xf 4850 WiC settings are one down from max.

Best we can do at the moment until we get some proper reviews :)

Also those settings, he does say he used max. I can't understand the language so I can't tell if those settings are actually max or not p

In that Crysis benchmark, even the GTX260 is beating the 9800 GX2. I think this calls for a technique typically used in the field of encryption and hashing (i.e. salt. Much of it).

2x 4870 should have no problem passing the gtx 280 by a good margin by the seems of it, in crossfire capable games at least.

But how would they do in nvidia's way its meant to be played games?

Well i suppose we don't have too long to wait and find out for sure what the figures say. I right from the start have been getting an Ati card no matter what the 200 series was like. I havn't seen anything in the release of the nvidia cards that has made me think again so no change for me . End of the day it doesn't matter what anyone buys or doesn't buy as long as each is happy :).

Some more benchies to compare with;

Lost planet (DX10 4xAA 1920x1200 MAX). Looks like the 4850 crossfire is storming ahead from some of the old tech in this, this puts it just a little faster than the 280/GX2

What's impressive is it's beating the 280 but WITH AA. Something which has let ATi down for so long and it really is great to see that for the majority of benchmarks seen so far. AA issues are a thing of the past.

This puts ATi way back in the game and gives them a fighting chance for once.

£470 on a 280 or £260 on two 4850's

Hmm.

If I were NVIDIA I'd be scared. Even in the tweaktown review I think it is a guy hints to the 4850's performance being better than the 280 when paired up

Fair enough the 280 is a single card but is it really worth almost 200 quid over a pair of these ATi cards to some people?

The 3D Mark results are also impressive should see some new world records with these before long.
