AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Thinking about the load temps i think this will be because of no fan control. The 3870 was pretty hot when i first got it but now i run constant 50 percent fan all the time through rivatuner and loads are in the low 70's but before i done this my load temp was in the high 80's. Hopefully this can be sorted as i see it as the only major flaw this card has.

Anyone thought about when dx 10.1 games come around also as this supposedly gives ati cards an extra 20 percent in performance this would really make these cards fly. Thing with that is nvidia still don't have dx 10.1 cards and can't see to many dx 10.1 games coming until they do.

JimmyZ on XS took the stock cooler off his and put some AS5 on the ones he has got and the temps went from 73c idle to 54c idle. :)

Might have to do that when mine arive then, otherwise its Accelero time for sure.

I can really see ATI making a large dent in NV's market share this year. If the cards are THIS good, and Crossfire works so well as to make 2x 4850's a viable alternative to a GTX280 for half the price, then they will sell like hot cakes. Any serious overclocker worth their salt has an Intel motherboard which as we all know... officially accepts crossfire only. I can see this resulting in a big surge of ATI card purchases. By not giving Intel a license to put SLI on their boards I think they have really shot themselves in the foot.

If the 4870 turns out to be the card we think it will, or a 1GB version of the 4850 gets released for not much more money (likely), then I am looking forward to my first ever multi-GPU setup... ATI style. :D

What would CF performance be like on a P35 board? I have an Abit IP35 pro and 8800GTS 512 at the mo, would like a boost to games at 1920 x 1200. Am I better off waiting for the gen after this?

Been looking hard trying to find the answer to that question. Unfortunately all the reviews seem to be exactly the same in the sense of high resolutions with top-end X48 motherboards etc. These tech sites really need to target the mainstream consumer more who will more likely have a P35 chipset and for which these cards are aimed at.

TechPowerUp have updated some results. :)

15:24: 3DMark03 & 3DMark05 scores are up
15:03: 3DMark06 scores are up
16:33: Company of Heroes, Far Cry, FEAR scores are up
17:03: Quake 4, Splinter Cell 3, STALKER scores are up

Basically a rip off of the HIS ICEQ3 cooler but with fancy blue LEDs :p

No, LOL.

:D

H**** have preliminary results up.

To say that AMD's Radeon HD 4850 launch has been a little unusual would be something of an understatement.

Cutting a long story short, AMD's forthcoming card managed to make its way into retail at various locations on various continents. As a direct result, AMD, to the delight of customers, decided to let things be and has brought forward the NDA to today.

To the delight of customers it may be, but to the dismay of media, we can assure you. Having not expected to be able to publish a review for a little while longer, we've literally been caught with our pants down trying to put the HD 4850 through its paces to provide you, our readers, with some highly sought-after numbers.

Well, following our very early look at the card this morning, we've managed to get our pants half-way back up, and we've got you some of those numbers. We'll make it clear before we get started, however, that this is another early look. We've benchmarked four games as a taster, but an in-depth review will be forthcoming.

Looks to me like the more AA, AF and general good stuff that you feed these little fellas, the better that they perform. What I need now is for some 4850 & 3870xt Xfire results to see if its worth while for me to pair one of these up with my 3870... Thats assuming that you can actually crossfire the new with old generations or if just a single driver will allow it, like the 2900 & 3870 crossfires that were happening for a driver release not long back.
