AMD To Launch RV770 On June 18th

Well lets see what after market coolers come for these the s1 is a tremendous cooler hopefully there will be something similar for these.

my card will be going under water so I could care less about the cooler, but gDDR5 and possible better speed binning are what draw me to the 4870 :)

Wish I had the spare cash to get one looks like I'm going to miss the boat will probably have to keep my 8800gt forever now and use it as an in between upgrade backup card. Not worth me selling it now would be lucky to get £60 for it now.

they go for about £70 in the mm right about now!

I'll probably get a HIS IceQ 4850 or a stock 4870 once they drop a bit below £100, personally, depending on the prices and the performance gap.

Single slots fine, 8800 GT had a single slot, and was hitting 90+ underload, and no problems with them. :)

That depends, the cores are meant to OC like mad but if heat is a issue then i am not sure if that will be a limiter,so i might just go for a 4870 but i need to see what they oc to.

so are there any good estimates on 4870 prices?

Apparantly they have went down to $299. After tax and import duty your looking at the £200 range, I would be suprised if it is much more than that though. Especially with Nvidia anouncing that 9800GTX+ for $230ish and dropping the current 9800GTX too $199.

are you sure ? as i have seen the 4850 for £148 , surely the 4870 will end up more than £200

Yeah, but let's be fair here, that's 'very limited quantity because of brought forward release' prices. I'm sure in a couple of weeks we'll see 4850's going for £120 and less.
