AMD to unveil Zen 4 CPUs at CES 2022

AMD have done tri cores in the past. Not sure I’d pay £120 though. Three cores with a big chunk of RDNA2 graphics might be interesting.

Probably not quite the deal as those who bought the chip new for £300 and a 300 series board which got blocked by AMD in supporting the 5000 series despite those early adopters being told they would get full AM4 CPU support.

And there was outrage about it which forced AMD to change that, that is consumer action working for them, and yet you and people like you hypocritically refuse to criticise Nvidia for 8GB £600 GPU's.

I'm more than happy to criticise Nvidia for the over priced Gpus and never recommend anyone buying one other than an FE version unless they are desperate and can't wait for the drops.

FE cards are 99% vapourware.

I have been checking prices regularly over the usual mainstream UK retailers the past year. What I can tell you is most nvidia AIB stock goes OOS, so that indicated even though say the 3080 LHR editions get listed for £1100, they sell.

So why pro nvidia defenders keep referring to 'only get an FE in my arguments' is senseless as the common buyer is paying around double what the FE cards go for. Agree that just because you 'can' buy one in the bot driven drops from the one retailer doesn't make it a true reflection of what's happening. Even HU seem to think their year roundup referencing the MSRP which is bull.

Even bots fail to complete purchases. The average buyer has almost zero chance.

This again. Since you don't foam at the mouth like others here, please give us your take on how AMD have been "overcharging quite a bit" for some of their CPUs?

Note that "have been" is past tense, so let's not bring Alder Lake into this just yet.

Apple's prices isn't really relevant here either. Although I too think they massively took the pish with prices in the Intel era, as a Mac user (secondary systems and cross-platform development) there is an awful lot you get as part of the buy into the Apple experience which to some is worth the premium.
I found the launch prices of Zen 3 fairly high, more so for the 5800x. I guess you could argue that they deserved the money for the 16 core chip if you could really make use of it though.
Seems like AMD are moving production to free up 7nm manufacturing. Finger crossed that is to ease constraints. Although I’m sure you don’t really care.
I do, i just don't want even higher prices. I also don't want to see AMD release CPUs that have more cores than the competition but lacking in per core performance. It's not that i like Intel more than AMD, I'd like for AMD to do a 12700k style chip in terms of price/performance and be better than that again overall. But others (humbug?) here have mentioned that AMD won't be aiming for those kinds of levels of price/performance anymore.

Bunch of new AMD leaks coming out from Videocardz.
5800X3D (3D Cache) will likely launch in Q2 and Zen4 (5nm) is now set for the second half of 2022.
New laptops will have USB4, PCIe4, DDR5/LPDDR5, WiFi 6E, readiness for DisplayPort 2, AV1 media decoder.

More delays again for 3D cache, AMD says it's now launching in Spring 2022.

At this rate, 3D cache CPUs will end up launching like 3 months before Zen 4

AMD have a chips like the 12700k two years ago. It’s going to be OK.

Maybe AMD had to go with Vcache on the 5800X as it was the only chip that they could add the cache too without seeing the extra gaming performance muted by clock regression. For price though I'm thinking it'll be atleast $499

Maybe AMD added v-cache because that’s the direction the industry is headed.

What delays are these? Were was the announcement that 3D would be available at a earlier time?

AMD have never said when the V cache refresh was coming out. All that was ever said was "into production end of 2021". So it's a bit of a stretch to say "oh, delayed again" when there was never a release date stated in the first place.
