AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

I doubt they are running it throttled. The case in question is more than good enough. Plus they only taped off the IO ports. Not the exhaust.

Drivers could make a difference. Possible they have a driver for it.

It depends on several variables one of those being what they are showing is true. I.e ultra MEANS ultra with every setting maxed. Rather than them turning a few down to hit over 60fps. As it only states ultra IQ.

I'm hoping to see it at 1070 pricing, or less. My guess is AMD will put it in between the two cards(1070/1080). If that's where it sits performance wise.

I think you'll discover different, but time will tell. Let's agree to disagree until the reviews are out.

Did you read the bit where it was running in a virtually airflow nil flow case and running on Fiji drivers with an additional debugging layer so no specific or optimised drivers?

So even ball gagged and on crutches it traded blows with the overclocked 1080.

A few bits of tape won't have a big effect on airflow plus they only taped the connectors on the card not the rear exhaust, As for the drivers that's a presumption, Unless there's an actual AMD source saying it I'd ignore it.

Mate it's all WTFteck rumor so lets get Giggidy LOL

We'll find out in due course but I think this was just AMD trolling nV to make certain irreversible decisions regarding clock speeds ect on the 1080ti prior to committing and printing boxes for them. We both know they are ready to commit hoping to once again take the wind out of an AMD release.

Like I said before, the proof will be in the pudding, hopefully Mr Jen will wear a load of custard this time around.

I will wait for reviews to come out before getting too excited either way.

But I will stand by my original prediction I made when this thread started back in August. The best Vega will complete with Titan XP and lower the price of that range of performance. This is when the 1080Ti will magically appear and offer similar performance to Titan XP at a much lower price to compete :)

I even get the feeling Nvidia will release the 1080Ti a month or so ahead of big Vega and sweep up a lot sales. People will be like OMG Titan XP like performance for ~£400 less? BARGAIN! Some will ask, shall I wait for Vega? People will say, hah, AMD will be lucky if they can get a card out to beat the 1070, let alone 1080Ti. Then Nvidia will get the sale :p:D

Nice story bro, I know...

I'll grab my coat ;)

Sure but I look at what it was using and things like immature drivers, poor cooling etc will all play factors in how it fairs.

And if the drivers really were Fiji drivers that had just been quickly tuned to even work on Vega, no wonder you don't get full performance out. There's things in Vega that Fury X don't have, and they would also need drivers, like Primitive discard accelerator from Polaris.

Also remember those Vega cards were only 2 weeks old, and they even had to mount cpu cooler (you can see those massive heatpipes from cooling vent) as they don't have real cooling solution ready for the card. Well it's clearly early sample so no wonder.

Also we have no idea about the clocks of the card.

Unless AMD are really sandbagging by using early prototype hardware and drivers, it doesn't bode well for a early 1H 2017 release instead of a late 1H 2017 release. If release was closer to the start of the year, you would expect AMD to have things like the heatsink and drivers more ready than this.

The small hope is that AMD is playing it's cards very close as per usual, and that things are further along than this.

so do we see anything today or will it be all waffle ?

Would be so typical for AMD to deliver something of value the one time you've given up on waiting (bought a new gtx 980 ti last week). Looking forward to seeing some Zen benchmarks though! 8 cores would be awesome.

It's hot air until ACTUAL reviews materialise. I put no stock in these over inflated marketing events, it's all pompous nonsense. Can't ever think of one where the end result hasn't disappointed vs the initial manufacturer claims and hype. I do find it quite interesting though, just to see how brash and boastful they are about the 'next big thing', but the savvy among us surely know to take all this with a massive pinch of salt! I'd hope so anyway.
