AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

+1 to that. I did exactly the same and got a Sapphire Tri-X which was probably the best of the Fury cards IMHO. It runs great with hardly any noise in all fairness and with my XL2730Z it's as smooth as silk, which is all that matters in reality. Well happy but would consider Vega at the right price and performance. I just can't see myself getting anything north of £500 though as even that is too much for a GFX card. It's only to play games on FFS, it isnt curing cancer or giving us world peace.

:p

Yeah the coolers are awesome, very quiet, and cracking temps.

Noway, both are headline products and there's no way AMD would be stupid enough to lunch both products at the same time which would water down all the coverage they would get.

It will probably go: Zen > Kaby Lake > Vega.

Actually it's precisely what they might do. Many companies do it. The purpose? to "flood" the headlines and ram AMD down everones throats left right and centre. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they release together. It helps mindshare.

I'm with you on that one Beany. It would create a big bang and if the two products are up to scratch then that would be a great platform for AMD to build mindshare on. However, I have the feeling that Vega just isnt ready yet and would think that they will just launch Ryzen at CES (Paper or full...not sure).

:)

I'd of preferred it if Vega came first as that's where my main focus is, But, I do want a decent 8 core cpu too so if Ryzen's as good as we all hope I may blow my money on Ryzen and then I won't mind Vega being another few months away as I'll have to save up for it again :D

Having to wait isn't a problem, IF the performance increase is substantial. If it gets to June then the 1080 will have been out a very long time, and 99% of people with £600 to spend are going to have bought one already.

I myself have been saving already and set aside £600 to buy a new big vega. I don't mind waiting for it, but when you release after being behind for a reasonable time period you really have to beat the competition or offer something substantial. If they release and it barely beats the 1080 for the same price then I'll give it a miss totally.

On a side note I really like the AIO cooling on my fury-x and, whilst some people had issues with it I didn't and hope that we get to see some vegas with the same solution because the noise and temperature levels are great.
Its a feature I will happily pay more for.

Yes but if AMD get the products right and the launch right and the marketing right, then they can have 2 months of RyZen being the most thing talked about in the tech world, followed by 2 months of Vega being the most talked about thing in the tech world.

Now the chances of everything going right for them and more importantly AMD getting everything right, of course is a different matter, as always we will have to wait and see.

People who planned to watercool their FuryX, could do it even cheaper :D

I grabbed a Nano (FuryX core) for £400 from OCUK, watercooled it with a prefilled EK block (£80), installed the official AMD UEFI firmware and overclocked it to 1140/1100.

Job done :D

This was my plan as well, but ek cancelled my order after 2 weeks of ''processing'.

Can't get the prefilled blocks at all now unfortunately.

I don't see why people post stuff like this. AMD have officially said H1 2017 which in business means June , May if things go better than expected.

I thought in business 1h meant literally anytime officially in the first half of the year, as they do not have an official date for multiple reasons.

Is sad to hear :(

However drop them an email if the FuryX block will work. They still sell it and seen from pictures there isn't much difference between the cards on the core inner workings.

Only the extra power mosfets which Nano doesn't have.
Ask them also if it can fit with the backplate only.

You have nothing to lose imho.

It's left me in a right pickle knowing AMD are releasing new products next year.

I've waited so long to build a brand new PC, and now that I have the opportunity to do it I don't know whether to wait it out. I'd love to support AMD but I really do want a new machine now. I guess I could support them now by getting a 480 alongside an i5 but I do wonder what I'd be missing out on by not waiting.

I was reading around and it appears GP106 is made on samsungs 14nm LPP node. And after checking a few sites, besides being obviously power limited by PCI slot power it can still hit 1.8-1.9ghz and hold it in some games.

So besides the extra info with Ryzen being at 3.4ghz base on the same process, it just shows that Polaris is limited in clock speed by its architecture and density. It makes me wonder if they have adjusted the density/architecture for higher clocks with Vega since the node can obviously handle it.

Also makes me wonder what the max clocks a Pascal part could do on 14nm LPP if someone made a 1050ti with x6 power connector. Since the design seems to be limited around 2.0-2.1ghz on TSMC's 16nm FF+.

C'mon it's only a fortnight 'til CES, at least wait 'til the New Year! If nothing transpires (ie release is put back to June or something), you'll still get a better price for a 480 or similar in the January sales I imagine... :)

I think buying an i5 right now is a big mistake. They have been the same for 5-6 years albeit with slightly higher ipc each year and finally we are getting something new very soon, you may be able to get a 6c/12t Zen cpu for similar price.

Quad cores with no h/t also showing age in games like battlefield 1.

Indeed 6 years since the 2500K came into the market (Jan 11) and we haven't moved that far imho. The difference clock for clock between a 6600K and the 2500K is around 30-33% in games, but the jump only occurred with Skylake. Ivy, Sandy, Devil, Haswel are all between 5% difference gap between them.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no longer an option I'm afraid.

I've managed to break my remaining nano, so bought an rx 480 instead to last me until vega.
