Stop making a fuss out of everything especially in a Vega thread. 970 was a decent card, I know because I actually used one at 1440p. I would not recommend buying one now though, just as I don't recommend buying anything with 4 gb, be it HBM or not.
If you want to give some decent advice to someone then you need to stop seeing conspiracies everywhere and focus on the person asking for help. My position has not changed at all, you just choose to see whatever you want. There is a word for that as well

Personally hoping they at least get small Vega out before Computex!!! Some of the features look verrrrrrrrrrry nice!!

I'll be more than happy with 1080 performance, IF it is priced accordingly that is. If they can get 1080 performance for around £450 to £500 then I'll be jumping all over it, might be wishful thinking that though. Fingers crossed, it's quite a shame it's still quite a way off.

How I'm hoping the market realigns:
1070 performance ~£280
1080 performance ~£400
Titan XP Performance ~£650
Since Vega will be coming out around a year after the 1080, this is also in line with the general performance per £ reduction we should expect in that time.

I don't think NVidia will be dropping prices much, if AMD get close to the 1080 it will give AMD a chance to reap some higher prices for there own tech. If AMD can get the prices up of there own cards they will, as they need money to boost there shares after a stressful time for the company.
AMD shares are booming but they'd still want to keep the momentum going. Overall its looking up for them if these cards are a success.
as Vega beats the 1080 it will be priced more.
its how these things works normally.
Then maybe other considerations take on a strategic value but I doubt that.
Vega screams brighter and better and works from out of the box without any respins needed which indicate a successful design done right.
and we already know AMD offers a better experience with gaming and has better drivers.

good luck with that. Even if it does beat 1080 there's no way AMD can get away with charging more. The 1080 has already been out quite a while.
Plus this doesn't quite stand right since a few people here seem to regard AMD as the savior and champion of amazing value. Having higher prices will surely be a slap in the face to everyone who's waiting for Vega.
As for better gaming experience and better drivers you know very well that is is likely to attract opposite answers and then you'll complain why people talk about this in a Vega thread etc etc. We've all seen this already, you'd think by now people would know a little better, unless of course you're trying to create that kind of atmosphere yourself.

Would be nice, but these days it's overly optimistic to expect prices of passing generation cards to drop. Instead, new gen cards get more expensive.
So I expect 1070 class perf to cost £350 minimum. A better-than-GF1080 card would be £550+.
Sure we'd love to see prices drop. But these companies know they can sell enough at the higher prices to make it profitable.
In the longer term I'd expect this kind of blatant milking to hurt the platform as a whole. More people will give up PC gaming and move to consoles.

I like your thinking but not sure it will happen. The Fury X was an expensive card when comparing to the 980Ti and the Ti was cheaper but the AIO would clearly add far more to the cost, so I can understand that. Even looking back to the 7970, that launched at a pricier point over the 680 (first out the gate, so AMD had the right to do that).
I would like to see some normalisation in pricing though and bring cards to around the £400-£500 for top end.

7970 was a 350mm^2 core, the 680 was 300mm^2, Fury X was 600mm^2, had an AIO and more expensive memory yet cost about the same as a 980ti without the AIO or more expensive memory but was also about 600mm^2.
AMD price based on a sensible/fair margin and the actual production costs. nvidia just look out and decide how much they can get away with ripping off their customers and when AMD don't let them(680gtx) they price with a fair margin to their production costs.
Nvidia is charging you 600mm^2 core pricing for 300mm^2 cores. AMD won't suddenly charge £600 for a ~350mm^2 core.

And yet nVidia seem to be the only ones who make decent profit from their gfx cards. Seems like RTG have to go down that route if they want to make anything bar a few paltry million or it hardly seems worth bothering with.
Are nVidia ruthless and a bit gouging and only serve themselves and their bottom line? Yes. Are they smart businessmen too? Yes. We're all under no illusions here.

Not like AMD wern't ripping their customers off either, when both the 980 and the much faster Ti were cheaper than it when it was released, with the Ti also having an extra 2GB vram
