I see the hype plane has taken off, it feels like the 480 hype all over again.

In fairness, AMD have missed out of late at the top end and in need of something to compete, so I actually hope it does beat the TXP/1080Ti and gets AMD back on a level playing field. It will be better for everyone red or green if that happens.

It won't if they then decide to charge a grand for it.

I think AMD can beat nVidia's 1070/80 with vega but Titan XP and upcoming 1080Ti they may more likley go toe to toe. I just can't see them with a noticeable lead. Even if they do i know nVidia can still release the full fat pascal and call it something else. But then again nVidia sell by the bucket load so they may just adjust prices accordingly and wait till volta.

Then get a 1080, which a lot have done with 290s and up, i see no point waiting for Vega, if its a year+ old 1080.

But I prefer AMD :0 I like Freesync, I like the drivers + software.
I dislike nvidia, if my next AMD can serve me has well as the 290 has I will be very happy.
Who would have fort a 290 @1440p could run witcher 3 50/60fps with only hair works off and shadows to high ;)

All am looking for is my next GPU to push above 60fps @1440p and am happy.

I'd like to know what Doom and other naysayers have to say about that advert. AMD themselves said 'poor volta' and 'sleepy industries' talking about Nvidia. Why in the name of all that is holy would they call out Nvidia as being sleepy, and say poor volta is it was going to match a 1080. Think. AMD did it deliberately, not a misspeak of 'overclockers dream' at a live event.

Volta was pushed back, vega wasn't.Both are new architectures, and this seems to be AMD's Maxwell-type increases, along with actually matching theoretical tflops into performance. It isn't so inconceivable that Vega is aimed at Volta, especially when their roadmap showed quite a gap until Navi.

Yer, a sensible price is needed really.

More people would be likely to upgrade from 290/970 cards if the price is appealing. This is where AMD can claw some decent sales back but too cheap will see tiny profits and too expensive will see slow sales. I seriously have no idea but I genuinely want to see Vega give NVidia a bit of a beating (or at least till Volta).

Yep. I doubt it will happen though, at least beating it anyway. Matching now should be possible considering Pascal has been on the market since June now - over 6 months old tech.

In response to another message, if AMD can outdo Nvidia's current offering's then why shouldn't the price be high? if they can only match or thereabouts then I agree the price needs to be a decent amount lower to do well IMO, especially if again they are way behind on efficiency which does matter as part of a complete solution. If they created a monster 20% faster than a TXP then no harm charging £1100+ IMO

Really? were you asleep through the Hawaii and Fiji releases? exactly the same kind of hype before those as well. (EDIT: and I'm not referring to what was said in that presentation). AMD bigging up before a release and pokes at the competition historically have meant absolutely nothing - they might have a great card they might have a stinker you get the same kind of thing before release and every time people fall over themselves over it like the last few times never happened.

Be careful claiming Volta pushed back, etc. things changed in regard to Volta but not in the way some people claim.

I can see the 480 being similar to the 290 though where it only gets better with age. Its called AMD FineWine technology ;)

I agree with you but seriously! Do you want to wait months and months before that happens? I want the best performance now and not down the road when I have moved on to other games or even cards.

Same here mate. Feels like things are getting stagnant in the gpu section of late. Need some good old competition to get things interesting again. Problem is i feel people rely on AMD to come out shotting like back in the day with Rooney for england just to get disapointed some what when its not exactly the performance they wanted. I just hope this is not the case with Vega especially after seeing the "Poor Volta / Better Red" poster thing lol.

I agree but the thing is if they price it too high they'll lose a lot of potential buyers. I might stretch to 700 but if it's more I'll grab a 1080 for 6 or just under instead. I imagine a lot of people will if it's too high.

Yup, that is my main point as well. Nobody cares that the card I buy today will be amazing in 3 years from now. By then we would have moved to much better things anyway.

I want performance now. It's not buy now play later, is it? :)

In AMDs current situation they don't have the image or influence to charge a higher price then nVidia. We have seen in the past where past AMD cards have been the better offering but more nvidia cards sold. Only way AMD can circumvent this is by making sure to remain competitive in price aswell.

Marketing is marketing and like Rroff said, remember the 480 :o They just need a decent card that the reviewers love and the rest will happen. I am fed up of paying over the top prices though and it would be nice to buy a top card for sensible money.
