I couldn't care less if it's matching a 1080 or even 5fps slower I just want to upgrade from my 290 that is less than £350..

Fixed ;)

290 has been my best GPU purchase as it has aged extremely well, at the time, it was that or a dearer 780 (where both were neck in neck with the 780 edging a few more titles) or a 970 (beating a 290 overall at the time of release) but over the last 12 months a 290 has pretty much over taken a 780 by a substantial enough amount especially in dx 12 titles and even beats a 970 in most of the newer games and the gap between a 290 and 780/970 is only likely to get even larger as time goes on with newer titles especially ones using dx 12/vulkan.

Personally I won't be budging from my 290 until I need to or can get 1080+ performance for <£300, I don't game anywhere near enough now to justify spending more than that, besides there are **** all games coming out this year that interest me :(

True. But, you buy a card knowing how fast it is at that time so if you are happy enough with the performance to buy the card any improvements down the line are a bonus giving the card more longevity.

I was thinking of this too. People say that as if when buying the person would not be looking at the price for performance of the card at the time of buying. lol.

I don't think anyone sits there and factors future performance that may or may not come when purchasing. I personally just see it as a bonus if it happens.

well, quite a few people here mention this as a reason to buy an AMD card.

The problem you have though is early sales/reviews have the here and now performance figures and a few months down the line, they generally don't retest and the majority of sales have already been done. The 970 Vs the 390 is a prime example and AMD eeked out more and more performance and brought the 390 to where it should have been from the off (sure you can lambast me for sounding like a broken record) but reviewers have the card, they test game upon game and then deliver the results. Joe Bloggs buys the faster card and tells his friends how good it is and they tell their friends and the scene has already been played out.

Well I don't know about them. But I see it as a bonus. Unless I am planning on keeping a card for a long time though, it has less value.

Besides, who is to say the Vega architecture will follow the same path as previous cards? It may not improve much at all like nvidia cards :)

Lol wth with Rx480 thing, it delivered what amd promissed and i don't remember Amd advertising it as 1080 killer or smthng. Now some sites did it cause of clicks but it wasn't amd, so stop with that 'oh remember rx480' nonsense

That's not a problem for the end user though, If someone watched those reviews and then still bought the card any improvements AMD do down the road are a bonus, Yes it doesn't help AMD if reviewers don't do new testing because the average Joe just looks at the reviews on offer which are usually outdated ones and buys based on that and it is a pity.
A Youtube review site up 480 v 1060 results a couple of days ago and the 480 was far behind so I asked what drivers and he said the results where from months ago which just goes to show the uphill battle AMD have ahead.

I agree but at the same point, they are potentially losing out on sales. A nice bonus as you say for those who have already purchased but for those unsure what to buy - look at reviews, assume that one is better than the other and buy based on those current reviews.

This is why they must ensure the Vega drivers are on point from day one.

Agree. I don't buy into the theory that AMD cards get better with age - it's a sign they're poorly optimised from the start and I've experienced this first hand with two previous AMD cards that even had issues with video playback that in one case took a few driver releases until it worked properly (movies played but were not smooth)! I gave up buying AMD cards when the last card I bought also had issues with RDP'ing which was crucial to me (driver crashed opening a new remote desktop session). Seems like the hardware is rushed out and they hope the can then get the best out of it later.

I have had lots of cards over the years, both NVidia and AMD. I cannot remember having any bug's that stopped me from playing games or made me switch cards. The most annoying bug I can remember is the AMD installer crash, this started when I got a FuryX and lasted about a year so I had to install the driver and components manually. This is the only bug that almost made me switch cards but thankfully the ReLive driver has fixed it. I am looking forward to getting a Vaga Card but don’t think they will be available at RRP for a few months at least, hopefully OCUK will not do what they did with the FuryX.

Must admit, although I've found NVidia drivers fantastic, I have had an issue with their installer too or more accurately, the Z-Zip compression technology they use to package up their installation files. I believe I had to re-install the OS to fix- kept throwing an error about Z-Zip when decompressing right at the end too. Seemed to happen from certain version. I could install previous versions but each new version after a certain point kept throwing up the error. OS reinstall worked tho

Looking good for AMD :).
Will be nice for some top end competition in both the CPU and GPU markets

GPU was locked to 60 does 85 fps unlocked and will retail for $300 USD Nvidia is doomed

PS One of more of the above figures may actually be made up

That's just stating the obvious, Of course it's poor optimisation, that goes without saying, The point is if someone chooses to buy an AMD card they are doing so on the performance they've seen in the reviews, and that means they are happy to buy as is so the extra that comes from optimising is a bonus.
