This is not looking good for Vega or NVidia would have launched the 1080 Ti.

Or maybe they want AMD to show their hand first; Nvidia isn't really in a hurry to launch a new card when their current ones are selling well. Vega isn't being launched yet so there's still time for nvidia to check out the competition and improve things if need be. Would be doing the same thing if I was in nvidia's shoes.

NVidia will already know what is AMDs hand and visa versa.

What AMD could be doing is targeting the 1070 with Vega to start with in the same way as the RX480 targets the 1060. With this in mind there is very little NVidia can do about it with another GP102 card.

There is a lot more money in it for AMD to hit 1070 sales than worry about 1080 and Titan sales.

Pretty sure AMD has two cards like before: one to compete with the GTX 1070/GTX1080 and one to compete with the GTX 1080 Ti. Even if Vega outperformed the GTX 1080 Ti (nvidia's internal testing), it still wouldn't make sense for them to launch it already; they already have a very nice lineup that is bringing in a lot of cash, and a month of sales before Vega arrives wouldn't be worth it.

No need, they have mutual partners who pass info around ;)

And I think Nvidia just know they have much more to spend on R&D and have confidence in where they're at with their technology. If AMD did pull a surprise Nvidia would just throw more money where they're losing out.

Nvidia probably have more money for GPU R&D than AMD have to send on both GPU and CPU....and I reckon AMD are more keen to develop their CPU's at this time to compete with Intel. The Lisa woman at AMD mentioned recently that as time goes by they will have more to spend on R&D (as things improve) so we shouldn't forget that - they're probably not going to smash the TXP even though Pascal is aging in technology terms now.

So is Vega's presentation today at 2pm (approx 5 1/2 hrs from now according to the ve.ga site)?

and if so, is that their CES presentation or are these both separate things?

Was also expecting bigger things from Nvidia's presentation. Very underwhelming IMHO. This $25/£20 for 20hours streaming gaming (That's probably on the least beefy setup) sounds like the biggest pile of Bantha poodoo this side of Mos Eisley.

AMD will have to go to some lengths to be that uninteresting (He says with fingers crossed, praying they dont screw this up...again).

Come on AMD, it's now or never....let's blow this thing so we can all go home.
:D

Their countdown timer lands at 6am in Las Vegas. I very much doubt they will be doing their presentation at 6am lol. I guess it's a countdown till the doors open for exhibitors, attendees won't be allowed in at 6am. Very odd choice of countdown timer.

AMD being slightly ahead of the 1080 would be disappointing tbh. UNLESS its a much smaller chip with reduced thermals, pcb size and power req.

I would want them to be at least 20% ahead... I do plan to sell my entire system which is based on the i7 and 290x x2 this year and swap to zen and vega

I would like to see AMD pull one out the bag with a performing gfx card to market, but even if faster is this just a paper launch or from today these chips are available ? If it's just a paper launch then nvidia will have no reason to respond if Vega is faster cause you can't buy it yet.

When Vega comes to market nvidia will deliver there response. I do hope Vega is more than just faster but available to purchase before Jan ending.
