I thought I was silly buying the 7950GX2 when it launched; then even sillier getting the 8800 GTX, and then 8800 Ultra.

Yet I bought a Titan X (Maxwell)...

So many of us complaining put ourselves in this situation. Always wanting the top, the best, and willing to pay.

Wish there were more than 2 people in the GPU race really, same for CPUs.

7950GX2 was expensive - but for the time you got a lot of GPU for the money. I mean in terms of performance it would be like having a pair of Pascal Titans on the same PCB and in terms of money like you paid around £800 for it - things have gone a bit meh since.

With a single precision compute of 12.5 TeraFLOPs per second on a GPU with 4096 cores, and considering TeraFLOPs is a function of Clock Speed * 2 Instructions Per Clock * Cores, you are looking at a Vega 10 graphics card that is clocked at roughly 1526 MHz assuming it has the same amount of NCUs. Considering the fact that the MI25 is passively cooled and also if the consumer version has less cores, it will be clocked significantly higher than the 1526 MHz mark! However, we are talking about a completely different architectural revision here and since according to AMD this will have a higher throughput per clock, comparisons on this bases alone will have to wait till more details arrive.

From WCCFs article on those Vega 10/20 slides.

You can always look for used products when they appear if you're not in a hurry. That way nvidia (or whatever producer/developer) only gets one sale and you're not encouraging the trend (much).

If 530-560mm2, 8GB of HBM2, 1500+MHz stock clocks spec is correct, plus all the architectural improvements .......

.... this should be by far the fastest card on the market in games that AMD tend to do well in, even at release.

I'd expect it to be hands down fastest almost everywhere but the most Gimpworks'd titles, after a few months of drivers.

The high end Vega cards are going to be expensive -

HBM2 memory

Large memory capacity

Large GPU chips

Having said that if the performance is there and I can afford it I will pay the asking price.

The Memory capacity (16GB) comes from 4 stacks, same as Fury-X.

A 4096 Shader 14nm GPU is not actually that big, the 28nm Fury-X had 4096 Shaders and 4 stacks of HBM, it was 550mm^2 and was it £550?

The RX 590? is probably about <300mm^2.

...and the interesting questin is, IF Vega really has 4096 shaders, same as Fiji, where did they spent ~6-9 billion transistors? I know all the new goodies, but that is a lot.

I agree, I would say in the £500-£600 mark. If the performances are there I'm up for it :D

That is true, I'll never forget how salty I was when I got that 7950GX2 and few short months after they dropped the 8800GTX.

Now that was a proper generational upgrade.

Can I pre order my evga rx 590 SC yet

Certainly Sir, just step into here....
