Yer, they are keeping Nvidia on their toes and not releasing anything yet.... Meanwhile Nvidia are mopping up sale after sale after sale as there is no competition . Well played AMD and good to see the apologists out in force as well.
Some members here think that AMD is smart and Nvidia is stupid. The thing is that they make them self stupid by thinking that hiring cheap labor and employees will make AMD competitive with Nvidia.

Listen you don't even know what sort of performance VEGA can pump out LOL... I'll tell you right now!! Nvidia is shaken to cut prices so much this isn't the Nvidia Way!!

Either 1. Nvidia have all a sudden had a change of heart or 2. They know what sort of performance VEGA can pump out!

If you think AMD is DOA you very wrong! They is competition too be had and and that is a good thing for us all.
VEGA at 1080 speed and at competitive price will sell and i'll be buying...

The situation will be worse than Fury X vs GTX 980 Ti.

It has nothing to do with Vega really does it? They wouldn't initiate price cuts till Vega had a launch date for a start, instead of panic dropping months before we potentially see competing Vega models.

They've had huge swathes of people buying 1080's for nearly a year and the price drop is simply to fit the 1080ti in at pricing similar to what the 1080 was so huge swathes buy again.

Oh please no. That launch (and that year for AMD GPUs) was a massive disappointment. Only good thing back then was that Nvidia weren't being as greedy as they are right now, so we could still get decent GPU pricing.

Vega needs to beat 1080 by a fair bit and still beat 1080ti too. I hope AMD really is keeping mum due to not wanting to reveal their cards (literally) to Nvidia, not if their card isn't that impressive.

Vega just got cheaper though. :D
1080ti released at 699$ (dunno if that is with or without TAX tho)

Call that £899 UK price including VAT. Which I have no intention of paying, even if 1080ti is a 4k60 card more powerful than Titan XP. Looks like I'm waiting another year to upgrade GPUs then... I hope the old 970 still holds together a year longer.

Okay, I didnt stay up late (or early, depending on your viewpoint) so from what I can gather I was spot on with my prediction above. 1080Ti for $699 to steal the thunder of the upcoming Vega launch. Yep, same game they played last time. However, this time no one really knows the real potential of Vega. They have 80% of the staff working on Vega drivers so hopefully we will see a good performing driver out of the box. As I said I didnt see the Nvidia presentation so what was the proposed performance increase over the 1080 ( Did I see 30-35% in an slightly earlier post?)...and does that make the Titan XP a null and void card?

I will pop off and take a look at the presentation a bit later to see what is what :)

I cant wait for all the Nvidia moaners to start crying about Brexit for the price of the 1080ti when it turns up on these shores at £800+ lol, obviously Vega is going down the same route, thats the price we gotta pay tho.

+1, that's exactly right. AMD have once again shot themselves in the foot and have no one to blame but themselves. No worries though, they'll soon release another advert to have the masses of fans drool over while NVidia will just release better cards and not worry about them at all. A bit sad really ...

Here's the thing about AMD as an Nvidia (I wouldn't say fan boi), but someone who would find it hard to not buy Nvidia, AMD do things the right way round. They are open source, they embrace new technologies in an open collaborative way... all things which I appreciate and value as an engineer my self. However Nvidia have the Game Development market cornered. They seem to have closer integration with Devs, so I feel like by buying AMD, Nvidia's closer integration and hence proprietary technology would be something I am missing in game.

Nothing of what said above is new, it's just how I feel. And I am on the cusp of buying a Ryzen system (maybe) and now even excited to see what AMD can do with Vega.

---

But tell me what state are the AMD drivers in? My last AMD card was a 5870 and drivers was why I moved as well as Nvidia's proprietary features in games.

---

And I have to say that Freesync is a sweet sweet sweetner when you look at price.

For me, it's about more than money for AMD/ATi whereas for nVidia I feel it's all about the bottom line and nothing else. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my perception since following this business since the TNT days...
