One of the leakers over on one of the Chinese sites that has a good track record claims nVidia will be issuing a refresh of the Pascal lineup to go up against Vega using GDDR5X 12GB/s on all the mid and top end parts which possibly gives an indication to Vega performance.

If true the 1080ti with it's 11 gb's would seem to have an extremely short shelf life as the big daddy, In truth there's a rumour for everthing so it's best to only believe what's officially sourced

Now ive not seen the rumors that it was a mobile variant but it could be true i guess. Flagship mobile variant of Vega? or OEM versions.
 
So maybe Nvidia has stuck out the 1080ti now because they know VEGA will destroy it ;) This way then can shift a ton of cards before that market is no longer available.

Probably not the case but maybe, just maybe :)

The same peeps said the Fury X would DESTROY the 980ti when that came out first and look how that turned out? Come to think about it in a lot of cases the "first" has been the destroyer. 9700pro before 5800ultra, or even the 8800 gtx before the 2900xt.

I don't think it is meant in that way - but rather it is the "flagship" variant of Vega but not fully specced/clocked up. They could be completely wrong but I've seen a few people in dev centric circles claiming that what AMD has been showing off is a like 2/3rd spec GDDR5 or GDDR5X card that is being used for testing next gen console and mobile development.

Man if that's true then Desktop vega could be quite good. 1080Ti averages 85FPS in Doom 4k Ultra from benches ive seen.

I don't think its impossible - if you keep in mind that the version of 14nm used for Polaris really isn't that good and supposedly a much revision is now live and AMD has significantly reworked many areas on Vega to utilise shaders like nVidia has been doing for awhile - Vega really should be a monster relative to Polaris.

We could also see in some videos that it was an engineering sample card, with extended PCB with USB 3.0 B connection on for debugging and monitoring.
Also had reports it was running old Fiji drivers, and then the debugging layers on as well.

It was also running on a Ryzen engineering sample, and motherboard as well.

That image tends to suggest it was a HBM card - if it was a traditional GDDR5 layout for latency reasons there would be a bunch of components in that blank space between the 2 right most screw in points for the back plate and components following the line between the foreground right back plate mount and the screw by the tape diagonally to most other components rather than as on that image where they are lined up with everything else.

Yup, it uses HBM, here's the die they were showing off during CES. Two stacks of HBM2 = 8GB

Doesn't mean that card specifically is using HBM2 though - however I've never actually looked at that picture in detail before but it lacks the circuitry on the back for GDDR5X and doesn't have the layout for a normal GDDR5 setup.

Aye, although the length of the card is nearly that of the Radeon Pro Duo; so there's a lot going on on that PCB, and that doesn't even include the PCB extension for monitoring and debugging.
 
Given the Doom demo, Vega 10 looks to be around 1080 levels in favourable games, probably worse in other titles and DX11. Lots of things can be improved before release but I think people are a bit deluded if they think it'll be hugely faster and compete against the Titan X / 1080 Ti.

I'm just hoping Vega 11 will be at 1070 levels for less money.
 
If there is anything to that they really should be managing more than a 1200MHz clock on 14nm LPP at this point even with a relatively big core.

Yea which is why i think the end performance could be really good at least on this test. I expect much higher clocks if the process has matured like has been reported. Even at these low clocks it's beating out a gtx1080 easily enough.

They're suing the exact same process as Ryzen, and remember all the ryzen engineering samples, and demo units? They were all 3Ghz and lower.

I expect these "leaked" clocks to be low because of the same reasons.
 
I'm resolved to playing at Medium settings with my Fury til the Vega aftermarket cards are out. Just hope I can hold on!!! No bleedin' way I'm going AMD reference cooling again, still got a bit of tinnitus from my 290X Reference Crossfire setup :D
