global foundries is not AMD, AMD doesnt have any fabrication plants in their name anymore as i explained before. they split/sold of thier plants to avoid loosing them if they went bankrupt.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_semiconductor_fabrication_plants
no AMD name on those plants in the list.

U do know global foundries is Amd's own fab right? Amd split their foundry assets into the seperate company in fear of bankruptcy so that they would not loose all of their fabrication plants. Sneeky move which im surprised most people dont remember.

Lol. These two comments clearly contradict each other. Global foundries is not AMDs own fab. They have no fabs.

they used to be amd's own fabs but they split off. standard tactic in the business world. that way if one goes down they dont loose everything. its still in the family so to speak.
AMD sold their last stake in global foundries in 2012 so they are completely separate companies now.

AMD does have the Wafer Supply Agreement which guarantees a certain number of wafers and price for both so they are tied together with contracts but not ownership.

was eyeing up the 8gig 480 but dunno if prices will be lower when the refresh comes out.

I just bought one for a Ryzen build I'm doing. The rebranded 580 should be out soon with marginally bumped clock speeds so I imagine the price will fall a little to clear out stock however the fact there will be no substantial changes means they might still hold their price.

true they are seen as separate now but more of friends with benefits relationship,
But that is not what you said earlier. You went from "U do know global foundries is Amd's own fab right?" to "its still in the family so to speak" to now "they are seen as separate now but more of friends with benefits relationship".

What the ****... :p:D

it used to be AMD's fab, just sold/split off now. u think global foundries setup those fab plants from scratch on their own? no they didnt, they belonged to AMD before.

Guys, a GTX1080 (Gainward Phoenix GS) for about 560 USD, incl. VAT (Poland), do you think it's a good idea to buy it now, or would it be a smarter move to wait for VEGA? Such a shame that there's almost nothing known about Vega, such as pricing or benchmarks. Heck, nobody even knows whether Vega is a 1080's competitor, or 1080Ti's...

1080Ti is out of my reach financially, but 1080 for 560 USD is acceptable, what do you think?

Smarter to wait in my opinion. 1080 prices going forward will be going in one direction and that is not up. Can always pick up a 1080 when the time comes if need be.

Why would I think that? If AMD sold their fab business it stands to reason they belonged to AMD before. I am not sure if I just do not understand what you are saying, or you are on a wind up :p

I might have to pick up one of these. My Fury X started artifacting like crazy recently; although it comes and goes... :/

Hope it lasts long enough to pick up a RX 580.

Sorry to hear that - time for an RMA?

I have a Powercolor Devil RX470 4GB - even at max settings in The Witcher 3 and Dragonage:Inquisition at qHD I could average above 30FPS in the scenes I tested.

I could do a proper review of it.

If I RMA I'd want to get a GPU in the meantime to cover me, as I'll be RMA'ing to Germany. Sadly this all decided to happen at the worst time possible.

Video and details of it here.
