AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

Looks like the card that tbh. :(

Are you getting system hangs? My R9 290x went from artifacts > systems hangs > GPU death in a matter of days

I just started getting some system hangs while playing WoW. Got told to increase the Core voltage by +12mV and it actually helped for around 2 hours. Then the screen started flashing black, game freezing, and crashing to desktop.

Game crash, and chrome window borders went all black and little artifacts all over desktop; the game crash said couldn't access memory either so it seems some HBM is dead or on its way out.

I just want it to hold out a little longer... :(

imho (I'm no expert btw but I did lose my 290x a few weeks ago) your GPU is close to complete failure. If you have the option under volt it, under clock it etc etc to extend its life. As soon as you can open your case and check the cooling on the card to clear out any fluff/dust/debris. If it is under any kind of warranty start exploring that option now.

Use DDU to do a clean wipe and replace of your AMD drivers too.

Yup, done all that, including using the AMD driver removal. Temps are prefect while gaming, even the VRMs :(
They never went that high.

Got the the card undervolted a little at the moment, and no artifacting on the desktop at least.

I would RMA it, the RX470/RX480 will do the job. The Powercolor Devil I have had no issue being overclocked to 1.385GHZ when I tested it.

In the process of contacting the company now. Damn issue is I'm in Ireland, UK, Mainland, it's all a hassle and a burden on my wallet paying for shipping to them.

At such a bad time as well, still until late April for the Polaris refresh, and Vega is still months away. On the brightside my card is dying before the two year warranty mark at least.
Might have to break out the old 6670 512MB card again, that little trusty thing never seems to die.

Let's keep discussion to Vega GPUs please. If you have an issue with an older card, shove it in the owner's thread :)

Been doing some googling - seems GF's 14nm is still exhibiting unstable yields and clock speeds around 20% down what a similar product can manage on TSMC 16nm or Intel's 14nm. AMD really need shot of them if even with a revision they are still behind Samsung's main line let alone TSMC.

Yup, that's the issue with darn contracts really. Could also be a prime reason vega isn't here yet either. Shoddy yields, and dodgy clocks do not go well with a brand new flagship architecture.

Considering AMD sent their finest binned RX460's to Apple, I can see that happening with Vega/Instinct as well.
I'm sure if they had the Option to get Vega and Polaris made at TSMC they'd jump at it, but they're stuck with GF for now.

Quite worrying and a real shame if AMD and vega get let down by this.

That would make a lot of sense as to why things are so quiet from the AMD camp i.e. they basically don't know if the silicon can deliver on their specifications and expectations. All opinion based of course but if the shoe fits and all that....

They do....

Another 290X to 390X while the 390X is still faster.

If that's anywhere close to being accurate (and I'm not saying it is or isn't) it's hugely disappointing. Your talking about clock boosts of between 40 and 90hz across the range. :(

It reminds me of going from an old 5770 to a 6770 (yes I stupidly did that cause I wasn't paying attention to the tech news at the time).

If it is true it lines up with posts elsewhere :( looks like they will have to speed bin cores to get desired results.

Hugely disappointing if it is true as GF has been saying they are now upto parity with Samsung's version of the process - but foundries lying about stuff like that seems almost the norm - TSMC did it for a lot of 28-20nm.

But that is not what you said earlier. You went from "U do know global foundries is Amd's own fab right?" to "its still in the family so to speak" to now "they are seen as separate now but more of friends with benefits relationship".

What the ****... :p:D

At least it proves he actually learned something today :D

If you're really lucky and have the warranty it might hold out till to May meaning a Vega replacement:D
