So... With Gibbo being "very impressed" with what he saw and Nvidia releasing a full fat Titan XP (panic mode), I get the feeling Vega is going to live up to my prediction after all.

\o/ YaY! :p

I really do not think Nvidia would have released another Titan if not for what they have probably figured out about Vega. Also look at how they priced the 1080.

Looking forward to Vega + Freesync 2 monitor combo :D

Anyone think it is likely that a Vega card will be available for around the old 1070 price? (300 to 400). i.e. should I sell my 1070 now in the hope of something reasonably priced and decent performance from AMD before the 1070 becomes worthless.
Nvidia cards won't become worthless no matter how well Vega performs. Also don't think amd would price these that low if they outperform pascal.

Vega + hdmi 2.1 TV for some 46" HDR goodness.

If Vega is an actual generational leap in performance then they would be significantly devalued.

its the way these things go with tech anyhow.

panic mode

Doubt nVidia is in panic mode as some would like to suggest - while it might hit their profits a bit they have plenty of options for an answer including even "just" producing a run of Pascal on "12nm" and possibly even 10nm as that is ramping but not looking great for GPUs just yet.

We don't know how well priced Vega will be, plus there will always be people who will hapily pay extra for the GeForce badge and other who have G-Sync so they locked in.

I ended up grabbing Gregster's 1080 for £375 and I am very happy with it. Hardly cost me anything as I sold my 1070 for not much less a two month's ago :p

Well maybe not panic, but lets be honest, something decent must be coming or they would not be doing what they have been. Thing is they obviously do not have anything else until Volta comes, which sounds like it is 9+ month's away.

The main focus with Volta isn't a GeForce replacement - but in theory there is nothing, other than it being an expensive way of doing it, stopping them bringing it forward on GeForce - Xavier SoCs for instance will supposedly be starting to make their way to partners late Q3.

"worthless" was a bit of a stretch, I just meant it losing substantial value compared to the prices the cards have kept right now.

The new Xbox Scorpio also supports it, now the PS5 just needs it as well, and Freesync will be everywhere!

That's good news as TV's will soon support it, I'm still using one of the first Panasonic digital LCD flatscreens which is only 720p so when we get nice 4k smart models with Freesync 2 and HDR I'll be looking to grab one.

I'd say yes, they should at least release a 4GB card at that price level.

4GB ? Pfft. Screw that lol. But seriously, that just ain't enough nowadays. I just want a new card to tinker with LOL, and there is no way I am buying a Polaris card when I have a 1070 at present.

Anywho.... put my card up for sale on here (and rest of my kit). I don't expect it to sell as so few USA people on here lol.

It'll enable them to keep the pricing down but it'll also have tech onboard that makes it more efficient and seem like much more. We just have to wait a little to find out :)

If one of the Vega cards has a performance similar to the 1070 then it will also have a price similar

First time I have seen a USA listing on members market :)

I SERIOUSLY miss the MM since I moved here. Anyway.. moving on...

What are the Vega Specs we think we know so far? Is it this:

Vega 10:
4096 SP’s
12TFlops
16GB HBM2
512GB/s bandwidth.

Yeah Nvidia are in panic mode lol, like they were when they rushed the 980Ti straight out after the Titan X, when the Fury X was getting released :p
Exactly. If Nvidia were in panic mode they wouldn't have released the TitanXP2 and 1080Ti, they would have sunk a load of resources in to making a new stepping of Pascal to scrape more performance, or as Roff says even move it to the TSMC 12nm process which is relatively similar to the 16FF+ so not so hard to do. By releasing a 1080ti and TXP2 Nvidia gain more short term sales and when Vega is reviewed there are even more Nvidia cards to content with at different price points. Nvidia are liekly quite happy with their line up and know they can simply cut rices if need be.

That doesn' mean Vega wont be a good GPU but I tend to think we will see a 1080 type card $50 cheaper and 1080ti card maybe $70-100 cheaper. That wont be enough for Nvidia to bother lower prices most likely.

A 4GB version sounded fairly certain from what I read. They are doing things differently with cache technology it seems to be a definite policy that they will use main memory for textures. Obviously they'll need to be anticipating well ahead of the frame being drawn, would be nice if AMD have managed to be this clever and it gives them a cost to performance advantage I presume. 300 for a Vega card that has all the widgets of its bigger brother would be an aggressive strategy, will they release both Vega types in 1st half ?

Theres a few USA people on the ocuk steam group.

we dont know anything specific :(

I personally think this high bandwidth cache is to counter the fact that HBM2 is expensive. Meaning they can offer a more affordable 4G card and not suffer from too much of a memory penalty.

Issue with that tho is it might* need the game to support it.

We won't know anything until it's in the hands of reviewers, could be that 4gb of HBM2 acts like 8gb gddr5 when coupled to AMDs new mem stuff, or it could just be a turd.

HBM1 was ok, except you couldn't clock it much but it handled itself well enough.

I just want some idea of when i can expect it, will it be at minimum as good as my 1070 and how much will it cost and then i will switch back to AMD.

For me, 1070 performance needs to be the minimum and anything above that is good especially if the price is competitive.

What i won't buy is 1070 performance at higher than 1070 prices
