AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

So the only interesting thing there is the mention of 1H 2017 not Q1 2017, which is later than most of us would like. This could quite easily put Vega up against Volta as has been said by others above, but what some may not have thought of is, this could be an 1170 that is around the Titan X (Pascal) in performance and an 1180 that is 10-20% faster still.
Can Vega reach that high?

Hopefully its able to compete with whatever the high end nvidia offering at the time is, if its just going to be on par with a 1080 a year after the 1080 launch then amd just need to shut up shop on high end cards.

What kimd of "workstation" comes with a 1080? :/ Even if it were for a render farm or pro-graphics work, you wouldn't get a 1080 as the GPU. Maybe if you're a games developer?

They are Dell Precision T5810 workstations, but we have a Premier deal with Dell so we get non standard builds. They are used as AutoCad LT workstations, funnily enough the GPU was pretty much half of the total cost, around £650 or so.

Im interested to see what they are, im guessing Founder Editions, the sad thing is the workstations they are replacing had Quaddro cards in them, and those workstations hardly ever got used. These will sit in a Server room pretty much living their life doing relatively nothing.

Might have to swap out a 1080 for a Quaddro to see if theres any difference in how it affects AutoCad LT ;) im guessing Zero difference, as the cards will never get used, its not like we will even use the video outputs on them either except when i build them lol.

Kind of stupid releasing after all the "Big" games have already been out.

If the cores aren't ready then there's not much they can do until they are. Not as if they wanted to release at a time after the big name games launched.

I like your positive thinking, looks like my fury is not about to be made redundant any time soon

My Nano could have been the same, however 40th birthday, so decided to buy a GTX1080 on a moment of weakness :o
and midlife crisis.

AMD are very irrelevant for the majority of us on this forum sadly now.

Yet you post in every AMD thread xD

How irreverent can they be?

Those RX480's sold pretty well, Zen and VEGA soon. AMD are very much relevant for those that don't just see green xD

This place does make me smile sometimes :D

Out of interest - isn't Vega two chips??

So when they say 1H 2017,whats to stop it meaning one of them launches in January and the other one later??

Last time I checked AMD,did launch quite a few cards in December/January.

Nope. This is AMD remember, if they state a particular half of the year it's always the end of it. Remember the 'Polaris in laptops in time for Back to School'?

They have SO much to work on it's not funny

They said summer and in time for back to school, and it launched at the end of June.

Summer starts in June, and according to Google and MORI-IPSOS,interestingly July and August are some of the key months for back to school.

Not sure what you are going on about TBH - does summer in Stoke-on-Trent start in December?? :p

Rest of the UK is June 1st.

Edit!!

BTW,I assume you missed the HP OMEN which uses a mobile RX460?? It was on news sites nearly two weeks ago.

I used to be very "AMD" - AMD CPU + AMD GPU.

I switched to Intel CPU about 4 years ago, and haven't seen a reason to switch back to AMD since (or even change my Intel CPU).

I switched to an Nvidia GPU a couple of months ago, I wanted to upgrade to another AMD GPU, but when I got there, the cupboard was bare. RX480 ? it just didn't offer enough.
