That's how I roll, I expect not to buy a GPU this year at all...
Although the 480 didn't convincingly beat the old 970 it's now crushing it in the form of a 580. With AMD you have to look at release performance and add on 10-20% to get where the card will be later on
I don't quite agree. Even from AdoredTV's video comparing recent 480 performance vs 480 at launch, it's not quite 20%. Maybe 10% at most in the best cases. And I'd say the 480 did a better job at 'crushing a 970' than the 580 currently does. Especially last month, 970 level performance at half what it used to cost.
So you only want NVIDIA producing consumer graphics cards? Gotcha.
Time to grab lay the old PCs to rest and go the way consoles if that were the case. Heck, if it ever happened, I bet consoles would eventually catch up due to lackluster price/performance gain from a single company making the only products. Which is why I wish we had a 3rd party in this 2-horse race. Compeition is always good. Look at Intel scrambling now that Ryzen has launched.
