I am going nVidia - just trying to persuade myself spending £600+ on a 1080ti is a good idea.

Yes but they will want to milk G-Sync for as long as possible. It doesn't offer much, if anything, over FreeSync any more but the more suckers that pony up for it, the more customers they have locked into their ecosystem. Eventually they will implement Adaptive Sync because as you say, lots of people will have FreeSync monitors, but by that point they'll have suckered a lot of people in already and will reap the financial benefits. This is what Nvidia need to realise, A lot of people will buy Freesync because Freesync models are more numerous and they don't carry the premium G-sync does, Once Nvidia start to see their market share dropping they will change their tune and support Freesync.
While it's annoying that I can't get an upgrade yet I do not regret buying my Freesync monitor and if Nvidia had Freesync support I'm pretty sure I'd of bought a 1070 ages ago..

Just remember, if every time nV put their prices up, people keep buying... then nV have every incentive to make next gen's Ti £700. Then £800. Then $1 billion.This.

Your monitor did not have lfc which obviously did not help with the experience. Freesync 2 hopefully will guarantee at least g-sync level of quality.I'm sorry but I don't agree. Having got both Freesync (LG 38UC99) and a PG279 I *much* prefer Gsync. With it being hardware it just works, whereas I've had problems activating Freesync on the Division for a while (fixed now, but AMD weren't doing their job software wise).
I don't fancy being in the above position again, all because AMD were breaking Freesync and not fixing it for months and months.

Depends on which one you got and from where. I got arguably the best 1070 (Zotac AMP Extreme) for under £400, the cheap ones like the clown edition was closer to £300.wait, wasn't the 1070 around £400 at launch?
I think you meant 500£ )
It doesn't cost anything, so why not?Why would you add freesync to a non gaming monitor?
Yup it is a stupid comparison.
1 monitor is aimed for pure gaming and the other is more for professional usage. The LG has considerably higher input lag which alone will make the LG not feel anywhere as nice for gaming, not to mention the LG's higher res. will drop FPS even more so again, not really a great comparison if you want to test only sync abilities....
Compare like for like and there is little to no difference between the 2 sync tech. as has been reported by various expert reviewers now i.e. PCmonitors.info, tftcentral, anandtech etc.
There are a lot of reports about freesync not working lately with certain games and the latest drivers but obviously this is something that AMD have ****** up given that it was working in previous drivers..... The 17.x.x/relive drivers have caused nothing but problems for a vast majority of people (just look at AMD's reddit for the latest driver and this is why I'm still on 16.11.5 as well as many other AMD users) regardless of freesync so again, not a limitation of the freesync hardware but AMD's crap drivers as of late.
Extra selling point. It obviously helped Jedi buying the LG monitor. There are many professional who buy it mainly for work but like to game a bit on the side I would imagine. Why would you add freesync to a non gaming monitor?
I did not say anything about market share. The 9700 was a much better card and it made NVidia’s card look ****. Even if Vega is 2x faster than the fastest NVidia card, NVidia cards will still sell more. It will take more than one generation at the top to change that, people are still going on about AMD bad driver's but that has not be the case for years.

The price of the 580 is gouging for sure it has to be. The retail price is so fare off the MSRP atm. However i think your right in regards to HBM2. I would not be surprised if big vega(gaming card not MI25) is 600 USD.

Yea. They need to have standards for freesync and freesync 2. If not met, then the monitor manufacturers have to put adaptive sync on there instead. Started to see more adaptive sync badges on monitors lately anyway. So maybe this process is under way.I think that it opens amd to bad press and reviews by letting anyone add the tech to their monitors. Average Joe might see
the review and think its worse than gsync.
I think this varies from person to person. I am not all that sensitive to it. Unless playing competitively which I do not, I do not think I would need sub 20ms. But obviously the lower the better.cant say ive had any problems gaming on the lg38 and i play a fair bit of cs go, input lag feels no worse than any monitor ive used
If LG really wanted that 38" screen to be a proper gaming screen, they would have used better components to get the input lag considerably reduced:
