AMD have done a Dual card for every Generation since the 3870x2 so i don't see why they would stop now if faster or slower. I think they also use dual cards in the professional sector so would make sense to bring a very low sales overpriced Radeon card.
Yep. Make one. Charge 1k or more for it. Claim it as fastest graphics card and have the most premium card available all in one.

For the rest of us release watercooled big Vega for £500 which performs close to 1080ti :p

vulkan is just mantle...... looooool.. pass me the crack pipe dude

I don't get it... Are you saying you don't believe this? Because it's like a well-known fact you know? And furthermore the DX12 API (not feature sets) is inspired by the same concept. Basically it's Microsoft 'copying' the idea and using it to implement its next-gen API.

A dual vega is probably a bad sign. It means the best single GPU is still measurably slower than the 1080ti let alone Titan, and there are not that many working Vega cores/HBM memory to meet demand. Thus put 2 of them on 1 card and charge a fortune for the fastest single graphics card in the world. But I expect this is some pro model thing AMD will try to sell to VR developers like they did with Fiji.
not necessarily a bad sign, maybe the projected revenue isn't worth it, for a big chip, AMD could very well decide to compete with 1070/1080 where there is volume, and extra Tam to grab from 900 series towards new api compatibility.
a dual GPU with 1080 performance is still around 50% faster than a Ti or Titan(in games supporting it), it might not be worth it for some ppl (multi-gpu and all ), but it could be used as a Halo product for PR, one that doesnt need hundred of millions in R&D, if they decide to sell it for a reasonable price, it might work, but if it's 1000$+...it will be another useless product.

A bit simplistic but. I bought a ryzen 1700 and put an nvidia gtx 1070 in it.

More than anyone I'd love too see an amd 1070 competition similar to ryzen, ie 1/2 cost outclasses the performance by nearly all metrics. On average that's not happening this gen though.

Yep, DX12 is Mantle and Vulkan is Mantle. AMD have done a fantastic job in bringing these techs to the forefront of gaming.

The new api's being based on mantel is the reason that the AMD cards are so strong on these api's they have been optimised for mantel and therefore the other 2.

Where EXACTLY do you bet the performance falls, on average?

50% better than FuryX for me BUT with possibly a lot better minimums due to the HBCC tech  (making the experience on the whole a very nice one, esp when combined with a good Freesync screen).

I can live with it just beating the 1080 (by 10-20%) if this is the case tbh :)

Quoted again for hilarity and you getting really, really quiet when the benches come out. Where EXACTLY do you bet the performance falls, on average?

He's being a bit facetious but he has a point. Look at the RX580 paper specs, it should be competing with a 1070/1080 in terms of TDP and die size but because AMD struggle with clock speeds and fully enabling the GNC architecture in DX11 it's forced into the next product segment. Hopefully AMD have found a way around these issues with Vega but then again AMD have a recent history (especially with GPU's) of underwhelming final product lunches it's almost to be expected.

Are you going to go single card or crossfire with Vega ?

Single card 100% all the way. Unfortunately, I upgraded to 390 crossfire when crossfire gaming was probably the best it's been (around 2 years or so ago when i had my 7950 crossfire) . Since then it's got worse and worse to where we are today and have been for about a year. Multi gpu for gaming right now is a huge no no.
