AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

Maybe I woke up cynical but. It seems to me that if Vega isn't releasing untill H2. It's not Pascal it has to beat... It's volta. It's all well and good comparing it to 1080/1080Ti etc. But the 1080 has been out for a year now. So unless you want to buy a card that will likely be bested in a few months or so. It really needs to be compared to Volta. If Volta turns out to beat Vega then where does that leave AMD. "AMD had a competitive card... For 6 months..." It's just not good business.

Yep. This is been my stance on Vega also. It needs to be able to deal with Pascal easily, as by the time it is out Volta will be not far away and let's be honest Volta will likely easily beat Vega. I can see Volta 2070/80 beating the best Vega. This is why I hope they do not price Vega silly as I will just end up waiting.

AMD will be lucky if they can have 6 months being top dog to be honest. They are jumping straight to 7nm with Navi and even Vega I think so they can easily go back to the top in 2019 if Navi architecture is any good. But knowing GloFo the process will be late and **** some how. Lol

So if the competition is doing 4k at 60 FPS average and 21 FPS minimum, you're willing to accept 54FPS average as long as the minimum is at least 63FPS???

I'm pulling your leg, but my point is that everyone must dial things down a notch on the HBCC. I'm just glad it seems to work via drivers (without the game code needing to be changed). Such assumptions on performance are just hype.

Yeah lol exactly haha.

But honestly the numbers that were being banded about and shown in video for mins were over 3x with the difference between HBCC on/off.

If that is the case that they are only 10% between their average and min then that is me all over smooth and buttery looking performance. We as humans notice stutter/hitching much more than anything else.

I can see some people pulling the trigger on a 1080 Ti in the next few days.

I think AMD should be doing more to look after their gaming user base, these are the real enthusiasts who will keep the brand alive.

The PC gaming market has been growing and AMD seem to be missing it? Maybe they should have 2 divisions. One gaming and other professional?

I often wonder why AMD are sticking with GloFO..I faintly recall something about some requirement of AMD to use GloFo for a certain amount of time. Wonder if that is still a thing.

Now what frustrates me is the release window of the vega gaming sku/skus if Gamer's Nexus's theory are to be believed and factoring in previous AMD releases. Im sitting here about ready to pull the trigger on a new monitor and GPU setup and yet again I have to wait ages. I guess I get to practice some patience.

Any idea who? ;)

Jokes aside, I'm still optimistic and I'm still pretty sure I'll be getting the fastest Vega card when it launches.

This was a financial analyst day, all business, with investors in the Q&A from Deutsche Bank and more.

Was entirely business focused from the brief sent out, and they delivered on it all.

Computex is for the consumer line of staff. Just like their last two big gpu launches was for Fury X and RX 480 as well.

Only thing we got in regards to gaming was Raja saying they managed to meet his goal of 4K 60FPS.

Do I want more on the consumer side sure, but I know what I was getting into.
Have to admit this was the best presentation AMD has ever done so far, Raja was the weakest speaker of the lot.

Vega Frontier Edition to AMD is what original Kepler Titan was to Nvidia. It released Feb 2013 at $1000. Once enough faulty dies accumulated, GTX 780 was out May 2013. Only later when full die yield was up GTX 780Ti came. 10 months after Titan.

Prepare to see repeat of that. GloFo yield and HBM2 shortage leave AMD no other avenue.
To fill their promise they will release $1000 card in June. It will deliver on performance promises

Normal gaming cards will follow later. And we will be lucky if it happens this summer.
Damn it.

If you bother about energy efficiency in GPU, please go buy the GTX1080Ti.
But you will have to use it for the next 40 years at 365/7-8h per day at 100% load constant, to pay the price difference through the energy savings.

Writing that because the last time some here were bashing AMD about the energy consumption, was the GTX780Ti/Titan Black against the R9 290X!

And had proven with pure arithmetic, that it would have taken 40y 365/7/8h at 100% load constant to pay the price difference via energy savings, of the GTX780Ti to the 290X, and 90 years for the Titan Black. (while the 290X is faster).

With the top of the range cards lifespan 2-3 years max, any energy consumption and efficiency argument is NULL AND VOID.
Go buy an AMD APU if you want maximum efficiency and something better than the Intel IGP.
You realise it's not just your electricity bill that's affected, yes? It also governs the amount of heat that you need to dissipate! So a more efficient card can lead to a quieter PC.

Power efficiency should be applauded, even if not the primary factor in choosing a GPU. AMD needs to get a grip on its power consumption, and I hope they will do/ have done.

Yes, you would think that, since all you do is play games with your hardware. AMD admitted that they need to try harder (go and watch the presentation), and that they have a vision from 2015 which is now coming to fruition, and that 2017 is the pivotal year for AMD, and moving forward from here they will be on a constant cycle, ensuring increasing performance and increasing market share, and margins year-on-year.

Damn it.

Raja stated in his opening that they're launching several Vega based products this summer, from Radeon Pro, Radeon RX and Instinct, and that the first I'd just 's little different, that's this Frontier card.

I doubt the Frontier will cost $1000, most likely a lot more as it's essentially a Radeon Pro and Instinct card according to them.

Well, they're claiming 2H 2018 for 7nm. I realize this may be practically December, but a Vega die-shrink at 7nm will be no joke!

The thing about 7nm is that was developerd by IBM, not GloFo. Basically GloFo bought that part of IBM's business and took on the entire department (along with the engineers). So there's hope they won't mess that up...

Then there's the issue of how soon TSMC can follow on to 7nm...

So this HBCC.... was there any hint that it might be useful for minimum frames in a scenario where vram ISN'T being exceeded?

Raja kind of alluded to something yesterday when he said that at the moment this feature might not have an application but in the future it will and devs will be able to code for it.

Regarding price, didn't Raja say he wants to bring 4K 60fps to the masses for under $1000. Well we know how much Ryzen costs...

I can't remember the whole quote but it obviously depends if he meant a whole system or just a cpu and gpu. Give us at least a range of what Vega could cost if his original ambitions still hold true.

I'd like to know where "the masses" have found $1000 for a single PC component. I somewhat suspect "the masses" won't be buying a GPU for more than $300.

He meant a 'system'. Well... From my understanding at the time. Whether that was a whole PC or just a CPU and GPU.

Edit: quick Google shows the interview with him saying a 4K ready PC... So all components.

That is what I understood also. Not just GPU... It would be silly if he meant just GPU so no idea how FoxEye understood just GPU. lol

he also said $200 for a 480 and we all know where there prices ended up, so hes probably meaning lowest end ryzen and vega pc for $1000
