AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

If Vega is gonna be late(late spring/early summer), what I'd like to see is this:

Big Vega(420-450mm²)

1) Full fat chip beats GTX1080 by 20% at £600

2) Cut down chip matches GTX1080 at £450

Small Vega(300-320mm²):

1) Full fat chip matches GTX1070 at £340

2) Cut down chip matches Fury X at £270

Give or take some on the performance. Nvidia will be able to lower prices to compete, along with a less expensive GP102(1080Ti), but it'll at least still mean lower price-for-performance for everybody, no matter who you pick. It wont get AMD ahead, but if they're that late, I dont think much will, unless they can beat what I just proposed by a fair margin.

I started the Zero remaster and was playing it in between my online games. Never got past the train stage. Decided i will wait until i got more time to get it done over a few days. Love the old School Resident Evil games. Done Resident Evil Remaster over a few days which would be the third version i have completed off that game. Ps1/Gamecube and then PC.

But I don't expect this will be true. Small Vega is said to be only 1TF or so faster than the 480. Therefore I personally expect Vega 11 to replace the 480, not coexist with it.

Which is pretty fast if there is improvements all around. Polaris still has plenty left in it if the rumored power reductions are true. Pascal is just about as close to a Maxwell rebrand as you can get but it does the job fine. It's already shown that the rx480 is starting to get the upper hand over the 1060 so with further improvements and clock boost's Polaris is all Amd need at the low to mid level.

e: What about 480 owners? Those who paid £250 just a couple months ago for a 5.8 TF card. Do you think the 580, if it's a 7TF Vega 11 at £270, do you think those 480 owners will want to upgrade at that cost and performance?

Or are we in Intel CPU land now, where you only upgrade every 5 years to get good increases/£ spent.

Just about everyone I know spends £360 on their phone contract each year.

So what's £270 on a new GPU each year...

Yup, it won't happen, i remember when they started the 1k Titan brand, they couldn't believe it when they were flying off the shelves, they couldn't keep up with demand, so no wonder they've now raised em to £1200

I would say full fat needs to be about 30-40% better than 1080. With all the extra time and maturing of process tech, new architecture and HBM2, this is not a big ask. But of course this is my opinion, hope people do not get upset by it, I think it is a realistic expectation

The train section is like what 15, max 30 minutes

My decision had nothing to do with branding, purely price for performance

Its worse than that, i had a 290 for 2 years (Powercolor PCS+) great card..., but i wanted an upgrade, all AMD did was rename the 290 the 390, i still wanted a change so thought i would give Nvidia a try again after a few years with AMD.

I have had the Gigabyte WF 970 for little over a year now, again great card but i'm looking at going back to AMD now.

That sounds like a bit of a sidegrade. I guess the 970 OC helped. Now 1070, that was a proper nice upgrade from a 290
