While true Amd did not really need to offer anything more as the 390x is a good match for the gtx980. It was not obvious back then with the 290x but now i would put up with the extra power and heat of the 390x due to th extra ram and dx12 capabilities. The Hawaii chip is really a thing of Beauty for how it's aged.

but HBM could be the game changer for them. if they have HBM and nvidia dont a lot of people will get one just for that. didnt work with gddr5 though.

AMD can win, but it will not happen over one or generation of cards. They are doing very well with drivers for a while now and if they continue with that together with introducing something competitive with Vega then they will get a lot of praise which will slowly start changing minds.

I want AMD to do well myself, I want there to be healthy competition purely so I can get better price for performance. I think in 2017 it is realistic to expect Titan XP performance for roughly 1080 price, at worst it will be by 2018.

I agree it was a thing of beauty, got one sitting in a machine here myself. But I do not agree that it was because they did not need to offer anything more than 390x, it was because they could not at the time. Watching what Raja had to say in an interview some months ago it seems they have put a lot of work into Vega. I am really looking forward to that chip and want to buy one. But not if it is going to offer me little performance for same price as what is available today/has been for a while now.

Yea i can definitely agree that they didn't have anything on the gtx980 release but months later they released fury at the same price. I would take a Fury over a gtx980 every day of the week. It did come 8 months later though. I do get the feeling that AMD tried to save some cash by over using Hawaii but it proved to be not so bad as they lost and then gained probably due to the 3 series and not Fury X

I know this. Was just stating that vega wont be £500. Especially when the only competition is pascal upon release.

If it matches or similarly matches a TXP i can see it at £800 just because of the new gen, HBM (if it comes with it). And AMD wont downgrade their pricing that much.

A year or two (next gen) and thats a different story for both cards for sure.

Ive said before, it'd be a right **** on getting one out, as id have to take them both out, so easier just to disable my second, will rip em both out, when i get my next card.

I know prices drop over time but no company will knock off 30/40% unless they have to or going after market share they will charge as much as they can and then over time drop the price.

Hate to think what vega will cost because of the size of the die never mind with imposter and hmb2 and 8/16 gig.

Have to agree. He bought into multi gpu and it didnt work and had to choices to get angry or just laugh n carry on best way imo

Not everyone can afford or be bothered to swap out cards after investing in them

Im sure i have said before why i havn't gone Green yet, and its as ive no need yet, as im just working through a load of my unplayed games, which are fairly old (done Evil Within, the Alan Wakes, and now onto Resi Zero Remaster), and they all run fine on my Fury, once i get onto games i need to upgrade for, then i will, and im not on the ReLive drivers, im still on the March 16.3 Hotfixes, as ive no problems at all with them, i used to update all the time a new driver came out, but i just got sick of being like everyone else, having to roll back, as they broke something which worked fine before updating (as well as other things), why fix what isn't broken as the saying goes.

It is kinda interesting to follow this topic, even though most of the stuff is going way over my head lol.

I'm just happy to get to use my 480 card when I get back from my holiday next week. Got my computer on Friday but not gonna put it together until I'm back from holiday, otherwise I'll spend way to much time sorting that stuff out.
