AMD VSR against Nvidia DSR Review

I'd call LambChop a fanboy though.

But mmj? Pretty sure he's been cracking AMD cards before, he was one of the first people to buy a Piledriver too.

Who said he was a Fanboy? he just calls everyone else a Fanboy at every turn. ^^^ He doesn't really have a much of a vocabulary, its just fanboy fanboy fanboy with him.

Sure, with zero bias too.
LambChop is also completely neutral.

PMSL....

There's someone else who calls people fanboys and doesn't have much vocabulary as well, can't quite think who it is...

In fact, the Freesync thread also had this discussion and apparently AMD were working on Freesync long before nVidia (I don't know the facts) but nVidia have had it out over a year now and AMD still don't have a Freesync monitor on the shelves.

This is pretty easy to explain, AMD's solution required going through a standards organisation (VESA) This takes time. The monitors for Adaptive sync might be already out if display port 1.3 was released on time.

VSR is quite stuttery in those videos, it's pretty clear. What's with the tearing though? i thought they would have captured those videos straight from the desktop, so why the tearing? or did they capture them externally?

They have to capture externally really (AFAIK) to get the post processing version of the image - the frame buffer the game is working with (and what most video capture/screenshots draw from) is the high res original before any kind of downsampling, etc.

Not sure its really valid to compare them as to which is "better" as while similar technologies they seem to be implemented and marketed a little different - AMD seems to be pushing on the enhanced super scaling angle hence I suspect why it seems to do a bit better at "anti-aliasing" and high contrast boundaries whereas nVidia seem to be coming more from an angle of reproducing as much detail as if you were rendering 4K or similar while using a lower resolution - hence using a custom Gaussian implementation instead of something based off more traditional sinc/linear filtering.

Didn't it just.

The only target I went for was not addressing what was written in front of you Greg, nothing more nothing less, no stupid straw pics, no accusations of lies, pointed out again and again and you still haven't answered, but we know why.

I seriously thought being a boss in the past would have been the end of these types of bickering with you leading by example and keeping the peace, now it's the victim card.:(

Unless I'm drawn back in with the perpetrator or one of the mates, done with this BS.:(

Yer another thread you have not once mentioned the topic at hand and just gone for an argument. I quite enjoy these cool features and yer, nVidia was out first with it and yer, nVidia was out first with G-Sync and yer, nVidia were out first with 3GB and 4GB GPUs but that doesn't matter when AMD have caught up and both have some good driver enhancements.

VSR is a long way off from DSR but DSR still needs work as well, so AMD can still get to grips with this. I feel downsampling really helps in some older games where jaggies are quite prevalent and even newer games can look better like I showed in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. 3200x1800 was what I used to run on nVidia's downsampling from the drivers and it worked nicely and they have improved on that by offering 4X the screen you use resolution. AMD only have UHD covered for the 285 and for the other R9 cards, 3200x1800 but it is a step in the right direction.

Having watched the videos in the op, ill be honest and say that i dont notice much difference in any of them. Possibly a case of a bit of detail loss due to compression for yt? Personally ive only tried DSR in a few games and gotta say im pretty impressed with it, screenshots uploaded here dont do it proper justice compared to what you see on screen when playing. Cant say anything about VSR because i havent used it.

Who would have suspected that this thread would descend into yet another primary school playground spat with the same old clowns have the same old argument.
