AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Just got my system up and running, only thing I did right away was stick the RAM up to 3466MHz - everything else essentially 'out of the box'.

3700X @ Stock, 32GB 3466MHz CL16 RAM, GTX 1080 Armor OC

1920x1080 - 56.1 FPS (+38%)

Cheers
Quick question. What make of RAM are you running? I am trying to find out if Ryzen 3000 still likes the Samsung B-die or I just go with any 3200MHz or 3600MHz.

Slightly odd conclusion from Steve... wonder what he's going to make of the 3800X lol! That's surely likely to be more the odd one out based on his criteria. The 3700X ticks many boxes for a lot of people I'd say, except for someone who's ONLY gaming and nothing else, more so if they're at 1440/4K. Otherwise, the 3700X does a lot right. For budget builds, the 3600 is clearly the way to go though, but that was never really in question.

He uses medium settings in a lot of his tests. Look at some of the FPS in the games - they are so stupidly high even a Core i3 8100 would probably suffice at the settings he uses.

Edit!!

Basically all the games they test are already hitting either 60FPS minimum averages or 120FPS minimum averages on the cheapest CPUs in their test benches.

Whats the safe 24/7 voltage on b-die RAM?

Got 8-pack 3600 cl16 but default XMP profile puts it at 16-16-16-36-2T, my understading it should be 1T?

Tried putting it to 14-14-14-36-1T but it PC doesnt even start, mobo showing red light for CPU.

Does ram timing need more tinkering rather than just putting highest 24/7 voltage and recommended 14 timings?

Shambolic launch really. Say what you want about Intel but at least their launches usually aren't this bad. And
3800x isn't even listed for sale direct from AMD. they either don't exist or are broken somehow i'd guess (or are monster chips they are holding back to protect sales of the other chips :p)
They game better than the 3900x is my bet. and AMD don't want people to know that yet until most hype driven 3900x sales are complete.

Well lets see what today brings in terms of news on 3800x. Hopefully they will come in, but i am very much doubting it. Seems they have not even left AMD

The 3800x are on the shelve in US stores a few days ago, I see it with my own eyes. It seems no one wants to post their results yet or AMD just haven't sent to reviewers.

You shouldn't need to be running 1.5v RAM on Ryzen 2!
Why is that? Are you suggesting that any RAM will hit Ryzen sweetspot of 3600-3733MHz?
What about tightening timings after that? Tuning secondary and tertiary timings will improve performance
If 1.5V is safe (which it is), and there is performance to be had (and improving Ryzens main weakness, latency), why shouldn't you do that?

Have people had much luck with Corsair LPX 3200Mhz Hynix stuff?

It runs fine under the standard XMP profile on my 1600 setup but wondering what people were seeing on Zen2 setups?

My experience with the G.Skill FlareX 3200 CL14 is at 45C or higher when OC'ed to about 3466 CL14- it starts throwing out errors. So, I suggest keep it under 45C.

Canceled my unicorn 3800X order, my money is better waiting in my own account for the mythical beast to arrive. I'm probably going to upgrade my graphics now and wait for the platform (X470 in particular) to stabilise and decide if I can get away with a 3600 as I'm mostly gaming with some occasional rendering and processing.
