AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Well damn if those specs are true, a 16 core chip with clocks that high? Definitely a nice upgrade over my 5820k. Those prices actually look decent for the extra cores and speed you get, if genuine. Not like the 64 FX processors that had just a bit more clock speed but cost quite a lot more on top.

It kinda seems a bit too good to be true though as well. Jumping to so many extra cores with clocks that are higher than i expected.

Will games/programs actually make use of all 12/24 or 16/32 cores?

If clock speeds are hitting a brick wall and more cores is where CPU evolution is going then developers will make use of them.

You need to have the tech mainstream before developers will embrace it, AMD has dragged Intel out of their 4c8t drudgery at last.

Awesome.... Intel must be crapping themselves.

If this is true, these are very exciting times and Intel are but a distant memory.

It's crazy how AMD nearly went bust a couple of years ago and Intel were still milking us with 4 core 8 thread CPUs, that's quite some come back from AMD.

Just imagine the threaded AI's we could have when a 100 dollar cpu is 6c/12t. Gone are days of stupid NPCs that can only be difficult to beat due to stat increases and not tactical "thinking". Gone are the days... no wait i forgot, we are dealing with companies like Activision and EA that doesn't allow for proper development times. Nevermind then.

5gz and 16 cores - imagine the real time raytracing! as that's obviously the next big thing </sarcasm>

Just because Nvidia have fleeced everybody with their half-baked RTX hardware and insane prices doesn't diminish the game changer that is dedicated hardware for real-time ray tracing; it obviously IS the next big thing and an important one too.

Is it? Like really is it?? I've seen it in person, at "ultra" and I thought it was very meh. Not that great at all.

I don't see it as the next big thing at all. I see it as simply another graphics setting like PP or AA. In fact AA is far more important and visually impactful than raytracing.

This all sounds a wee bit too good to be true but dammmmnnn! Keen to see what the APU parts are like as it may be easier to upgrade my 2400G rather than get a GPU, only need 1080p (ish) performance.

Current uses of ray tracing are just the tip of the ice berg. In future, it won't be a single graphical setting - it will be how the entire game is rendered.
