If you look at the test if says no direct airflow which is basically a case with no fans which is pretty unrealistic, add a couple of fans and you knock about 20-30c off those temps for the hotter boards so I doubt you would have anything to worry about even if you did go for a 3950X at some point, also bear in mind he is feeding it 1.4V which is more than 0.1V over what most people would recomend for daily usage.

why do you need to add fans instead of buying a decent vrm not these cheap turds? Open cases have no airflow for example.

I was disappointed to find that the VRM cooling on my X570 Carbon was crap, but it overclocks RAM well, so I'm not ditching it unless I actually see it struggling in *my* system. The VRMS didn't even break a sweat F@H with a stock 3800X. I eventually plan to upgrade to the best 4000-series gaming CPU and if that happens to be a 16-core beast, I'll stress-test and see if further action is needed.

I think I'll be fine though.

Isn't the 5000 series the new name for the desktop 4000 (aka Zen 3) series :)

And yes we're expecting X670 with the new Zen 3 desktop range.

I'm wondering if it would be better going for known decent board from the x570 range as opposed to an unknown quantity from the x670 range. What's x670 bringing that x570 doesn't, or is it too early to know?

It's a tough one. We have all the reviews and know all the merits of the old boards, and it will take a goodly while for all the x670 board to be released and reviewed.

The x570 isn't exactly old. But equally there's no point in buying a mobo for a CPU that's not released yet... Who knows, maybe the boards will come first?

What will difference be between X670 and X570? I will be buying a 4000 series CPU and wondering whether to cheap out of a B450 or go full fat with an X570/X670.

Are we? What evidence is there an x670 chipset is launching with the zen 3 processors this year?

What are you expecting x670 to offer over x570?
Was wondering this, has anything been announced?

If there is a x670 chipset it can only really tinker round the edges rather than offer something revolutionary.

whats so unrealistic about a fully loaded 12 core why would u buy a board with poor vrm just so save a few bucks? Spend a bit more and have a good one, and feel free to upgrade to whatever cpu and oc the snot out of it with 0 airflow on the vrm (as pointless as ryzen oc might be)

What's unrealistic about a 3900X running at 1.4v static whilst load tested for an hour on open air without airflow, really? You have to ask that question?

As for a few bucks, we're talking over £100 and in some cases enough of a difference to pump into a better GPU.

Of course, research and ensure you get a good product at a good price. But these are designed to withstand around 120c. If it knocks at 80c or even 100c now and then under extreme conditions, that's not really much to worry about and has largely been blown out of proportion.

Just what I remember reading prior to the B550 launch. That ASMedia would be making chipsets for the B550 and X670 motherboards ("coming soon" :p).

I'm sure ASMedia was said to be producing chipsets for Zen 3 (and beyond), but that could have been pure speculation tbh.

I would be surprised if they went with only X570 and B550, given that X570 is getting on a bit. You tend to get the best out of a new CPU with a mobo that was released at roughly the same time. Best feature support, etc. Motherboard manufacturers will also want something new to generate more boards sales, I would imagine.

I'm not sure why they'd not want to release a new chipset for Zen3, tbh. So far we've had three generations of Ryzen and three generations of chipsets to match. Not sure why we'd expect Zen 3 to be different in that regard.

What I'd like to see measured (haven't googled it though), is the difference a tower CPU fan versus a top-down one makes to VRM temps. There is a reason that any retailed boxed CPUs, both AMD and Intel, come with fans which are top-down.
