Last news was EPYC coming end of 2020
So it makes sense to expect Ryzen Q2 2021. And then probably mobile/APU by the end 2021.
Full year wait, yes.

yeah I knew it. At the investor day the cfo said zen 3 Epyc launching q4 2020. Nothing was said about Ryzen. Ryzen zen3 is only 2021

I wonder what they will call the zen 3 apu's? Can't see it being 5600u etc as it might confuse people if ryzen 5000 desktop is moving to a new socket, unless the zen 4 desktop will be named 6000.

Yeah I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed about this.

But AMD have form. Whenever they have an advantage they tend to dither and delay, and seem to have great trouble executing in a timely manner.

Hence we often talk about them "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" by not pressing home any advantage they manage to gain.

I guess their saving grace in this context is that Intel have said they won't have anything competitive until 2022 at the earliest. Here's hoping AMD manage to release Zen3 before 2022....

I'm not sure that changes anything.

AMD said "March 2021 at the latest for desktop Zen3" and "full range by end of 2021".

To me that's fairly clear that Zen3 desktop is not a 2020 product.

What you quoted says this..

The fourth-generation Ryzen chips will arrive at the end of this year, but AMD says that the full range of consumer products, which includes desktop CPUs, should all be available by the end of 2021.

The fourth-generation Ryzen CPU's by the end of this year.
IE Ryzen 4000

But AMD says that the full range of consumer products, which includes desktop CPUs. Shall all be available by the end of 2021

The only 'other' Desktop CPU's are Threadripper.

Right but if you say the TR chips come 6 months after the Zen3 desktop, that still means that Zen3 desktop can be as late as H2 2021. However AMD said March 2021 at the latest.

Ergo I can't see how it changes anything...

Also 4th gen can mean Zen2 APUs, Zen3 Epyc, Zen3 Ryzen, whatever. It does not necessarily mean Zen3 desktop CPUs, as I'm sure you know.

AMD might do a Zen2 refresh with higher clockspeeds if there is a delay?? I agree they shouldn't relax the time between releases!
Personally wouldn't upgrade for a simple refresh. If it's late because of something not their fault then i guess it's fine, but a delay just because they feel like, doesn't make sense while they have a good opportunity.

I think a delayed CPU launch would be something they consider, depending on how the global financial situation pans out after the pandemic has ended/subsided.

Launching new products into countries facing a rescission as big or bigger than the 2008 financial crash could end up costing them more than they make back, due to reducing margins and overstock in the supply line of older parts. Business at the higher end where EPYC will still get bought (due to very cheap government lending) will gain them margin and market share, vs desktop CPU's that virtually no one wants to buy due to being effectively worse off.

Take that person who won't buy a new CPU to replace his ancient 2500K, they are so cheap that if they don't release one they want a 3700X for £200, it is that attitude you'll get from 'normal' people who'd happily pay £300+ for 10% bump and no longer will.

They don't have any new CPU's. ;) *

*That are not already delayed.

Well yes but you're ignoring the point :P
AMD are fighting to diminish Intel and succeeding, Intel are not going to delay their refreshes because they are now fighting for their reputation.

AMD have said forth generation Ryzen will be out late this year, and they will because they know Intel are wounded but not out and time is critical, they are not going to take the pressure off Intel and allow them time to recover.

AMD have said forth generation Ryzen will be out late this year.

They haven't committed to that in any official form though, only that Zen3 based EPYC will be out. They could obviously just release 1 or 2 SKU's in Oct/Nov and wait until Jan-Feb 2021 before releasing the entire Ryzen *standard* desktop lineup. The first SKU's will show the performance expected and allow people to make an informed decision, instead of waiting blind.

They have, repeatedly, last during the financial conference, they explicitly said "Forth Generation Ryzen will be out late this year"
