AMD Zen 3 (5000 Series), rumored 17% IPC gain.

Jebus, you are hard work.

Why does AMD have to release Ryzen before EPYC just because they have done so in the past?

I have taken data from the FAD which Forrest Norrod, on stage with a slide in accompaniment, said that EPYC Zen3 is out in 2020, there was no mention committing to Ryzen 4xxx Zen3 based CPU's in 2020, nor was there an announcement to the negative either.

Provide factual first hand information from AMD to the contrary then we can continue this 'discussion'.
The article I read (which as always I now cannot find again) had a detailed analysis of the Financial Day quotes and all the slides for Epyc and Ryzen.

The quotes were, "Zen3 [in some form] end of 2020". "Consumer products inc Zen3 desktop no later than March 2021. Full [Zen3] range delivered by end of 2021."

That leaves the door wide open for Zen3 desktop/Ryzen to be a Q1 2021 product.

Why might they do this? Intel have recently said they have nothing to counter Ryzen. AMD might have decided they want/need to make a bigger splash in the server market, whereas Ryzen is doing really well already in the consumer space.

Who knows tho. Maybe they're being deliberately vague and misleading for the lulz. Maybe there's a delay getting consumer boards/chipsets ready. I really don't know.

But I've personally decided I will jump on a cheap 3700x offer if one comes around, because the wait for Ryzen 4000 could be up to 12 months from now, and I cannae be arsed to keep waiting forever.

With the coronavirus probably delaying many releases, what would you delay given the choice if you were AMD?
With their recently announced HPC plans/wins I'd say now isn't the time to delay EPYC releases at the expense of desktop.
Pushing back desktop has very little downside; nerd rage.
Delaying EPYC looks unfortunate at a time when they are pushing into the data centre and HPC more.
Whilst in the current context it would be understandable, reducing any delay would just make them look even better.
Sorry guys but desktop can wait. (Runs for cover :D )

It's not just the delay - there will be a Coronavirus Price Premium to pay on your 2021 CPU also ;) How does +20% sound? :p I mean, "constrained supply and high demand pricing" :p

In the end, I decided to only get a Ryzen 3600, rather than a higher end chip, simply because the gains reported so far are quite a jump, and they seem worth waiting for. 17% is not to be sniffed at.

I do hope they release something for us enthusiasts this year.

What, of course Ryzen 4000 desktop is coming this year. That's their cadence since Ryzen 1000, if they're missing the desktop release this year they'd disclose this huge news in their FAD, don't you think?

Initial Ryzen 4000 desktop parts (R7 and R9) expect from August - October.

EDIT: This would be going against their roadmaps too

Way OTT. It's a ******* flu, seasonal influenza can kill 20k people a year, yet we dont close down society for that...
Not sure if you have read the news recently but the impact of this on society is already very large.
It's bound to have an impact on the release of certain products.
This is a world wide phenomenon but the impact on China alone will hit the electronics/IT market.

Have I seen the news?! Lol it's hard to friggin miss it as we're getting wall to wall coverage.

I dont think this will have a large impact as China have got this under control and had just 8 new cases the other day. Yank land could be screwed because of senile orange face in charge. But if we're talking China, this wont be an issue for manufacturing this time next month.

I wonder if today's news about price cuts in America for 3000 chips is AMD planning the 4000 series? Trying to offload stock and make space for retailers?

CPU manufacturing is often an International affair.
I have no idea how China being shut for business for 3 months or so would impact TSMC.
It also depends where they assemble and test chips.
It only needs one part of the chain to be comprised and we see delays.
Then there's the question of delays in the shipping of parts and finished products.
If AMD are looking at a 3+ month delay for Zen 3 chips, then they have to decide which lines to delay the longest.
Say that initially they were hoping for a September release for Ryzen 4000 series which was their planned first Zen 3 chips.
They lose 3 months and decide to put EPYC out first as it's much more important to them not to delay that.
So Ryzen get pushed back another 3 months while they focus on EPYC.
So 09/2020 becomes 03/2021.
That wouldn't be a surprise.

Dropping prices to help with the gouging. I'm sure we were told prices were going up and that was why the 3900x discount we saw the birthday bash was so amazing ;-)

troll or uninformed?

Covid 19 spreads much easier than the seasonal flu and also has a higher kill rate.

the USA medical chief estimates if they do nothing, the virus will infect 150 million, of that 2% will die - that's 3 million dead people just in the USA
