I'd say wait if you aren't in a hurry, then you can chose between the dead end LGA1700 platform, or the brand new AM5 platform with a potential 3-5 year life span for CPU upgrades. I certainly wouldn't be buying the overpriced 12700K's etc. right now, even the 12400 is approaching £200, while the R5 5600 is now down at £130, madness!

Yep I am now 100% bought in to to this. Like I said, I can get my kicks from ordering my WC parts and practicing bending hard pipes in the mean time :)

You're right, Intel's prices are going up while AMD's are going down. WFT??????

Its like Intel have decided they aren't going to take any more market share from AMD so they just push the margins back up.

Meanwhile AMD are clearing old stock.

The fact that AMD is now able to cut prices by up to 50% when production and shipping costs have all supposedly increased just goes to show how much profiteering was going on for the first year after Zen 3 released.

£300 for a 12600K I got mine second hand for near half the price.

edit: Just checked that auction site wow the cheepest 12600K is £275, great timing on selling my 8700k setup.

As much as I disliked AMD selling Zen 3 for ££££ at the start at least they discount stuff now its towards its end of life which is great for people looking to upgrade on AM4.

If you get rid of all the bias the fact that you can buy an AMD 12 core with 24 threads for £350 is just awesome (paid £399 for mine and still think it's a bargain) I know I bang on about it and maybe it is my old age but what a time to be alive when it comes to tech. Just bloody marvellous considering where we were just 6 years ago.

The same goes for the Alderlake, despite intel not being my cup of tea. Amazing tech.

Yes, huge profit, that's why Pat Geisinger is unhappy, he can't replicate that with brand new architecture and platform, ADL is discounted from the first day despite having higher performance, and he doesn't like that.

Intel have never to my knowledge increased core for core prices by that level from one gen to the next despite having a larger lead over AMD for many years than what Zen 3 had over comet lake at the time.

Great to see Zen3 being reduced, but won't this cause the same resentment as last time? Yes, Zen3 went up in price, but a lot of the complaints were also along the line of, I bought my 2600X at an end-of-life sale for nearly half its initial MSRP for £100.

Obviously we don't know yet, but say that 4600X and 4800X comes in at £300 and £400. If they then get compared to the outgoing 5600X @ £150 no matter how fast, it won't look good.

I love that AMD do sell stuff cheaper towards end of life, but that kind of thing can damage perception.

I'm happy enough with my 5800x in my main rig and 3600x in my 'spare' rig, the servers 3400g would probably be the next to be upgraded, as I built them to last main rig and server are both x570 boards and the spare is a B550 so should have plenty of options to move stuff around if needs be..

It’s really very simple, prices are being cut because they have way too much stock in the supply chain and they need to get rid of it before the next gen drops.

Likewise, it’s likely they are in the same boat as Nvidia regarding over ordering wafters from TSMC since the making crash and they need to sell product fast.

Intel probably don’t need to cut prices because they have more control over their supply chain and they are still selling plenty of product at the current price.

Intel offered same architecture for many years while changing socket so...
It still doesn't detract from the fact that an unlocked i5 2500k cost $216 over 10 years ago and now the 12600k has only increased to $289 despite offering almost 3x ST and 7x MT performance.

It wasn't needed because Intel stagnated whole industry with 4 cores, and thanks to AMD we now have 16 cores in mainstream, and Intel HEDT is dead.
It wasn't like AMD did much before Zen either, sure they had 8 core CPUs but those were slower than Intels quads so you could argue it was AMDs stagnation and weak competition that held back the industry during those times.
