*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

Does anyone know if this weird long boot time issue when using overclocked memory is something that can be fixed or if it's just how it is.
Historically such things have been addressed in later bios versions. But not always.
But the solution would be fast boot that skips memory training entirely. Did you try yours?

I don't have anything to try yet, just something I'd read about over multiple board types.

Man people selling full ryzen 3000 systems for 500-600 barely enough to cover the cost of a brand new AM5 board and cpu, it just shows how overly priced and expensive it really is.

I find the boot time to train memory is 30 seconds or less, it's really not that bad at all. Once passed, there is an option in the BIOS called context memory restore, set that to enabled and the memory training is skipped next time so boot time is really quick. I'm sure as the platform matures it will get reduced even further. Having a AM4 and an AM5 system here, both using 2x16GB, it's a nothing burger for me tbh.

People just want shiny new things. :p
Its why Nokia and such tech companies vanished as they made things that wasn't made for the consumer consumption rate.
Don't judge me.
Tech hardware been improving at a fast steady rate so make a lot of sense upgrading in a faster cycle vs waiting.
We are reaching a huge slow down in die shrinks of transistors now so innovation has to happen to improve things the coming decade.
I still recall, when intel released a cpu 18+ years ago and buddy bought it at 700euros.
6 months later it was down to 350 as AMD released a faster one at 350.
Nowadays these things are fast so why not upgrade with a 30% uplift?
Its a lot really.

@RBImGuy don't disagree with any of that, I actually don't own a pc at all currently.
I upgrade phone about every 3-4 years if that.

@LtMatt Can't ask in your FS thread for obvious reasons but why are you not using the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 RGB on the new CPU and what are you using instead?

I'm using the Corsair H150i Elite LCD, purely for the reason that the Arctic Freezer (with its thicker radiator) did not fit properly in my O11 Dynamic. It would only fit if I removed one fan from either the bottom or the top of the chassis. It ruined the look I was going for, so it had to go. If it was not for that, I would have kept it as now I have to use Corsair's resource intensive software just to be able to control the AIO fan speeds.

Roger, thanks. I am actually going to try for the first time in recent years to air cool. I saw the review on Tom's Hardware for that Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 and for £40 I think it deserves a go.

I prefer silence over anything else so will be interesting to see how it compares to an AIO. I have the advantage this time of not caring about aesthetics.

It may work with a program called "Fan Control", I use it and its pretty awesome.

I am sure I've read that the O11 Dynamic will cater for an AF2 360? I assume it's the RAM clearance you have issues with? Maybe the Evo model has a little more room?

It fits, but not with 3 fans in the bottom/top. You have to abandon one fan with the AF2 as the tubes block it, whereas the Corsair rad is much thinner so can fit in with the 3 fans in bottom/top.

Hi mate, so if you have the O11 Dynamic, you can't fit a 360 AF2 cooler in the top without removing one of the fans from the radiator? Is that right? Apologies, just looking to build one at the moment and last I checked up, an AF2 360 easily fits in the case with a top fitment. I just want to make sure! Thank you.

Sorry, I was referring to the chassis fans. Here's a picture with an example showing the problematic chassis fan depending on where you have the tubes when using the AF2.

Excuse the wild RGB, MSI decided to make the worst RGB software known to mankind which doesn't even work so that 4090 Trio is going back. I've also got some matching fans coming for the roof. :D

Ahhh that makes sense! Thank you - yeah, that RGB stuff in general isn't really for me! Although I think I'll be using some RGB parts mainly because in some instances they come out cheaper than their standard black counter-parts. My PC will be sitting under my desk and probably end up getting the odd kick when I forget it's there, or Spurs are losing.

...although I must admit, when people go for the all-white with subtle RGB it looks pretty amazing, like something off The Island or 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Those O11 Dynamics appear to have a lot of space, I'm impressed.

I'd go with the bigger version if you can, this one does not have enough space. I wish I'd got the O11 Dyanmic EVO.
