*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

Could be Zen 4 might not be much of an upgrade over Zen 3 and possibly lose to alder lake, they mention better gaming performance for Zen 4 3D only. Why would anyone invest in the 6 and 8 core parts when they have 3D on the way, they would have to be really well priced.

I wouldn't read too much into not mentioning gaming performance on none 3D chips, its just an intro highlighting headlines.

WCCF and videocardz (Same thing) should be banned from the forum :p
Nah, they should just be considered as sources of entertainment where averaging the speculation might give some hints.
In the end, barring spectacular failures (like Intel 11th gen) we do know new get has better performance than old gen, what remains to be seen is if performance per dollar improves or not.

I thought people would hold out with rumours now, when its like 10 hours away from official announcement
Sites like that needs to publish constantly to guarantee advertisment views, so if they have any worthy material they will publish "leaked slides" 2 minutes before if they can.

Oh dear, check out the pricing.

My oh my. If those are the actual prices... Yikes. Its been 6 years in a row that they kept the same corecount, now if they also establish these crazy prices for the 6 core and 8 core parts...its a disaster.

300 for a 6 core part and 450 for an 8 core should be illegal.

you saying it like that means the performance isnt gonna be improved ?? if its the same core count ??? correct if wrong wasnt Zen3 a great success ?

Ampere was all a huge sucess, doesnt mean the prices were right.

Your competitor went from 4 threads to 20 in the same amount of time while amd have stayed on 12 threads while jacking up the prices by 50%. Yikes

Intel up their prices, AMD keep the same prices yet AMD are the bad guys, maybe you should wait on performance figures first

Ampere was all a huge sucess because they have the mindshare ? and better RT ?? so how did AMD manage it with the CPU ??

Cheapest 6 core used to be 200 from 2017 to 2019. Then it became 300 both for the launch of zen 3 and zen 4. The same applies for the 8core models (300 to 450).

Thats a 50% increase btw.

If you think 6 cores for 300 at the end of 2022 is a good price then more power to you, you can buy one and be happy about it. To me it looks like a scam

I think new sockets every other generation and E cores are a scam, but each to their own ;)
Then you would be wrong. How can something that increases both single and mt perfromance be a scam?

Regarding sockets, what new sockets every 2 generations serve is to not cause the confusion and the delays that am4 caused. We went literally on a roller coaster on whether or not x370 and x470 will get support and when. Id rather change my mobo then have to wait for 2 years for my now 5 year old motherboard to get support for the now outdated cpus. Cause thats exactly what happened with my b350 and zen 3. Intel offers support for cpus day one, not day seven hundred and twenty like amd does.

I can put raptor lake on my z690 the day raptor lake is released. I could put a zen 3 on my "supported" am4 700 days after release. So amd is what, 70.000% slower in bios updates..
