*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

Then you would be wrong. How can something that increases both single and mt perfromance be a scam?
Lol but AMD increasing prices while increase ST and MT performance is a scam, double standards there and that still does not address Intel releasing a new socket every other year. You understand times are changing right, there was a time i could buy 2 pints and 4 games of pool for a £5 now i can just about get 1 pint if im lucky. Costs are going up deal with it

EDIT - Scratch that, Intels priuces are going up, AMD's if rumours are to be correct are staying the same

And this is why WCCF should be banned from the forum, despite them getting it wrong most of the time theres always one who takes whatever they say as absolute and use it to start idiotic brand wars.

Every ###### time with WCCF.

Cheapest 6 core used to be 200 from 2017 to 2019. Then it became 300 both for the launch of zen 3 and zen 4. The same applies for the 8core models (300 to 450).

Thats a 50% increase btw.

If you think 6 cores for 300 at the end of 2022 is a good price then more power to you, you can buy one and be happy about it. To me it looks like a scam

If that was the case why was zen3 so popular ? Go look up share they gained in that time

And what now Intel are pitting their prices up and their motherboards are also more expensive in general (high end at least)
I dont want to drag this offtopic but Intel dont get off the hook also rasing pricing of Alderlake to make Raptorlake more appealing as we cant have a cheep(er) Alderlake competing with it.

Is there an announcement today or this week from AMD regarding Zen 5 as I see some offical looking slides have been shown/leaked from a Youtube video a few posts back.

Mindshare? Or it applies only when you want it to :P

I mean you can tell from this very forum the amount of fans amd has, no need to look further

What do you mean mindshare ? Intel have always been ahead but zen3 pulled some of it back talking sales here ? Why ? If it's 50% increased?

YouTube ? It's probably click bait , they might share roadmap it's all about zen4 so don't see why they will want to share anything about zen5 other than maybe roadmap when to expect it

Could be Zen 4 might not be much of an upgrade over Zen 3 and possibly lose to alder lake, they mention better gaming performance for Zen 4 3D only. Why would anyone invest in the 6 and 8 core parts when they have 3D on the way, they would have to be really well priced.

They confirmed upto 5.8ghz, ~800mhz higher than Zen 3's maximum on 1 thread, what's not to like? All they said is 50% better perf. in games with Zen4+Vcache. We also know there is around an 8% IPC improvement.

All the benchmarks so far have suggested that Zen 4 is at least as fast as Alderlake in single core performance, I don't think there has been any genuine leaks of the 7900X or 7950X yet, no one has shown a photo of these installed.

I hope we get a 7800X that clocks really high, personally. That's what Zen 4 will need to compete with the 13th gen.

I don't like that they used half the trailer to look make zen 4 look like it's flying through a dark room with lasers dancing around...

There's always an early adopter tax, prices will come down just like they did with Zen 3. Considering inflation since 2020 and increased costs from the 5nm node, an MSRP the same as Zen 3 is not what I'd call a scam.

As @Bencher wrote, unless you waited for price reductions with Zen 3 the price increases covered the cost of a new motherboard/platform anyway.
Yeah this is how AMD made the money back but unfortunately most people didn't realise and even now people are saying that AM5 will offer better value due to the motherboard saving.

No most people undestand this completly. They also understand that a high end AMD motherboard will be cheaper thena highend maybe even a mid range Intel motherboard. Most people also realise that times are constantly changing and if you want the latest and greatest then over time the prices will go up. Example would be smartphones, how much did the iphone launch for compared to todays model or the Galaxy range of phones, fundamentally still do the same things though

Some sites are reporting the 7600X will be a 105W TDP chip which gives me concerns for cooling for the higher chips at least when it comes to my cooling setup. I don't know what effect the smaller heat-spreader will have on cooling either but I cannot imagine it being a positive change..l

That was true in the past but I expect AM5 boards to be more expensive than those for RPL which will support the older 600 series chipsets.
