That's really fast, its the frame render time in milliseconds, so lower is better. I think its memory speed limited as I run 4800 RAM and only get ~60% CPU usage. Is that any god @FredFlint ? I'm used to dealing in FPS.
I bailed out having waited for Zen 5, went for a 7950X3D and B650E.After waiting so long to upgrade and thinking Zen 5 would be it, Im actually considering now getting a 7950X or even a 7900X as the prices on these are really good at the moment. Even a 7900X will be double the cores/threads that I have now and if I pair it with X870 for the faster memory speeds it will still be a significant upgrade for me. Im not fussed about gaming, it is all about media creation and photoshop that is driving this upgrade.
However after waiting for so long, my upgrade itch is still saying buy this gen not last gen
I have time as X870 isn't out until the end of the month so I will wait for Arrowlake benchies in mid Oct and the RAM I want is nowhere to be found at the moment.
Solid choice.I bailed out having waited for Zen 5, went for a 7950X3D and B650E.
Memory speed is no different to X670 / B650 The IO die (which contains the IMC) on the Zen 5 SKU's is exactly the same as Zen 4,if I pair it with X870 for the faster memory speeds it will still be a significant upgrade for me.
I could go that route, but Im going SFF and mini ITX this time around and the only mobo I would get right now would be the ROG Strix X670E-I for the USB 4 so I might as well wait for the updated version in X870 or see what ASRock do in the mini ITX space with X870.I bailed out having waited for Zen 5, went for a 7950X3D and B650E.
Ahh, I thought the 8000 OC needed the X870, I didn't realise that X670 still supported itMemory speed is no different to X670 / B650 The IO die (which contains the IMC) on the Zen 5 SKU's is exactly the same as Zen 4,
It's this and it's quality that determines faster ram speed, nothing about that has changed for X870 / B850, the boards still use the same Promontory chips used in X670 / B650 with an added USB 4 controller chip and a wifi 7 module.
The only noticable difference so far is you can set fclk to 2200 reliably on Zen 5 as opposed to Zen 4, the ram limits are still the same. X870 motherboards won't change that as they are rebadged X670.
Techspot did s 24H2 comparison too:
Lots more games, only 2 CPUs.AMD Ryzen 7 9700X vs. Ryzen 7 7700X: 45 Game Benchmark
Today we'll show you how to boost the gaming performance of your Ryzen CPU by 10% with one simple trick. Sounds too good to be true, right?...www.techspot.com
"What We Learned
This Windows update is a big deal for AMD users. Based on the data we've seen, you can expect around a 10% uplift on average gaming performance, with gains at the extreme end just over 30%. We saw almost no instances where performance didn't improve, and none where performance regressed."
Who told you x870 will have any faster RAM speeds achievable? There's 0 real indication that will be the case. You can already get 8000MT speeds but you need to be very lucky and do loads of manual tweaking. It's highly unlikely that will be any different on x870 boards - memory controller is inside CPU, not in the chipset. After waiting so long to upgrade and thinking Zen 5 would be it, Im actually considering now getting a 7950X or even a 7900X as the prices on these are really good at the moment. That's what I wrote. That said, x870 motherboards will be on the expensive side of things initially, so they might add more layers and make pathways between RAM and CPU better (less noise etc.) which could contribute to higher speeds. You can already have that with current chipset and more expensive boards though.Same IO die, RAM speeds won't change.
How you getting on with one of my 7950X3D's Dave? She's a beaut ain't she.Sorry quoted wrong post!
Still not setup yet, board arrived yesterday and meant to be camping all weekend. Life is too busy! How you getting on with one of my 7950X3D's Dave? She's a beaut ain't she.
