Go for it, I did and noticed absolutely no difference. Just meant I could hang out with the cool kids.
I changed from the same CPU. TBH I already new gains at 4k were negligible at best, just had to scratch my side grade itch.
Yep, yet you still get that urge to change lol. I get it, It's in the same logic that I'll get tempted by new GPU's despite the fact there are barely any pc games that push GPUs for the right reasons anyway.

Stick with your 7700x, I have the least powerful CPU in the household now, but I did upgrade, from a 5600G to a 5700G.
I really would like an AM5 equivalent, but hard to justify given the high prices of the 8600G/8700G.

I play all my games on the integrated 5700G APU, I was going to downgrade to a 2CU 7600(X) but it looses too much performance, as soon as I see a deal on the 8600G or 8700G I'll get one of those.

I stopped playing games for a good while, so downsized, then I got into OC'ing the APU's which I found fun so stuck with them. Have a GPU I could install but that is boring.

TBH. Considering the games I mainly play, and the actual time spent doing so, I could probably get by with an APU.

At the rate we are going at we are still going to be tweaking Zen4 when Zen5 arrives and if you upgrade, that tweak path is going to start all over again
Some good news I read today though said AMD have changed their roadmap and were going to support AM5 up till 2026, I'll see if I can find the news post, but that means at least Ryzen 10K will come to AM5, and last I heard about Ryzen 10K is they were going to move the 3D cache to the IO die on X3D CPU's so all cores can use it.

it feels like Zen5 will be a Zen1 moment, with Zen6 being the modern equivalent of the Zen2 revolution.
i.e. the arch first, then the packaging that allows the arch to reach its potential.
i'm slowly moving into the new PC excitement, but i'm hoping that I can hold it off until Zen6.
