AMD Zen 5 rumours

Looks like Star Citizen benefitted as much from tuning the RAM (7% gain) vs. 6% gain from the overclock. The gains in 1% lows were even better! It is a memory intensive game?

Star Citizen is not a game, firstly. Secondly, yes its always being extremely bandwidth intensive in all aspects, including being picky about the type of storage device it's on

could be intresting

TLDR: AMD says an upcoming build on Windows 11 which is currently only in testing, will improve Zen5's gaming performance by average of 7%

AMD says this patch allows certain branch prediction improvements to work in Windows, which were previously not working for reviewers who were using public Windows 11 which is different to windows 11 that AMD had access to for it's testing

Probably two different departments/teams, with poor internal communications, and so you ask the same question to AMD but depending on who answers, you get two completely different answers

To quote Hardware Unboxed, who's been talking to shops: "Zen5 sales numbers have been an absolute disaster"

Good thing X3D is on the way, launching in January apparently

Sales must be terrible.

Imagine paying full price at launch and then 1 week later the price cuts start

10% price cut so soon is crazy

I downloaded 26100.1150 and did a clean install, I used the MW3 in game benchmark before and after and saw no CPU performance improvement from 23H2 to 24H2 with a Ryzen 7600. Weird because it was one of the biggest gains on the HUB video.

We assume when you say this you understand what a CPU and GPU bottleneck is, but if not - you will only get the same result as HUB if you have an RTX4090 and run the game at 1080p, or lower resolution.
Its also possible than even though they called it MW3, maybe they actually tested Warzone

Apparently global zen5 sales are so bad that it's the worst launch for amd since bulldozer

Unlike bulldozer though, that doesn't mean Intel is getting more sales. People are just buying Zen4 instead of Zen5.

I was under the impression that AMD/Windows had figured out how to get games to stay on a single CCD back when I was gaming on my 5950X.

However, when I heard about the dual-CCD Vcache chips needing game bar, it sounded like they had introduced another hurdle in that picking "a" CCD and sticking too it was no longer good enough. Now they had to pick a *specific* CCD for each specific workload and also remember to stick to it.

Dual Vcache chips simplifies things back to where just picking "a" CCD and sticking to it will work.

I like this idea.

Dual vcache solves one problem but it only works if inter ccd latency is low and both CCDs run at the same clocks. Currently on ryzen 9000 models the two CCDs do not run at the same clocks and remains to be seen if x3d is the same or not.

There are various issues with keeping gaming threads on the right ccd. A recent example is that with a 9950x and 9900x, AMD says you gotta keep windows in balanced power profile mode; but if you're a VR gamer and you try to play a VR game on Steam, Steam automatically puts windows into High performance power mode, causing the game to be on the wrong CCD

I miss Windows 7. Yes there was still monitoring, but it was and still is, the best Windows OS imo. Why they butchered it with Win 8 I have no idea.

IIRC, at the time Microsoft under Steve Balmer thought that mobile devices were the future, so when they developed Windows 8, it was designed to look like an OS for mobile devices

I **** you not, Microsoft thought everyone would be working on phones and tablets - they believed laptops and desktops were dead
