*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

If AM4 does not have some decent mini-ITX options then I am probably staying with Intel.

It certainly has the potential to.

As people mentioned, since they'll be APUs on the same socket it follows there'd be decent demand for mini-ITX.

But also remember a lot of the chipset is actually integrated onto the Zen die. So just because of that it should be simpler to make small motherboards than Intel's platform.

I am hoping so myself taht is the case, but we will need to wait and see first I suppose!!

Lets be honest the main guys are certainly going to be there. Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus. Even Asrock id assume.

Asrock are a definite. They're talking about "the power of zen" etc on their Twitter (haven't looked elsewhere)
That only leaves EVGA but they currently don't have any AMD Mobos so I would be surprised if they do make AM4 boards

Asrock currently make one of the best Skylake boards for OCing so all I am really looking out for is an Asrock board or a Gigabyte board.

Currently have a Gigabyte mobo, this one is a replacement from an RMA, before that i owned a Gigabyte board as well.

Had Asrock boards they were solid, and a DFI Lanparty board that was really good as well. Had an MSI board that never worked out the box so ive never bothered with them since.

Tbh i always have a gander at reviews before buying, generally i'll set a price ceiling im willing to go up to, then filter all boards on OCUK upto that price, then look at features and lastly asthetics and check reviews etc.

I had an Asrock board with my 2500k and it was always brilliant, wouldnt hesitate to use them again with Zen, but equally wouldnt object to Asus or even Gigabyte, only manufacturer i would personally be wary of is MSI.

With motherboards I just look which one. Is getting a the world records on hwbot. If it can handle a cpu at 1.9v with fast tight memory at 2v on Ln2 then it's clearly the best board and bios.

Yeah the manufacturers could be a reason to not buy Zen for example. I know a lot of people who are increadibly loyal to mobo manufactures and so will go Kabylake if their manufacturer doesnt make AM4 boards

I generally find brand loyalty unless you hold stock or have a sponsorship deal UTTERLY pointless.
At any point a "good" brand can throw out a **** (rhymes with "word"). At any point a "bad" brand can hit a home run. There's literally zero point to it. A good sampling of a few reviews will tell you where you should put your money.

they meant to have m2 and all the goodies right?
excited for them next year <3

i expect the 8core to be expensive but anyway we'll see!

Can first hand say Asrock's customer service is very good.
If I found myself looking for an AM4 mobo I feel it'd be a toss up between Asus and Asrock.

dont think ive ever had a asrock board id like to try one out too, biggest annoy with me and motherboards is software/drivers, im not a hardcore overclocker so

dam asus sound driver software 450mb, maybe its not their fault but wow :(

Never had a single issue with Asrock or Gigabyte boards. Used them in my mining rigs, zero problems, ever, with half a dozen GPU's dangling out of each one running 24/7 for months on end. Got a cheapo Gigabyte ITX board im my main box currently.

MSI on the other hand... would never touch again.
