AMD Confirms, Zen On Track For Q4 2016 Availability On High-End Desktops – Zen APUs Coming In 2017

Availability meaning?
It's all about context, availability could be shipping to OEM's etc (Like it tends to)

Also, wccftech are absolute crap.

I haven't touched my PC in ages for upgrades, not a GPU, and I'm still on a 4770K and barely even register interest in anything anymore.
Hopefully Zen's good whenever it launches, and then I'll make a platform upgrade, either to whatever Intel, or whatever AMD.

To be fair just because AMD are saying it'll be available late '16 doesn't mean that it actually will be, who really knows when it taped out if it all yet? it's all just speculation at this point.

Polaris out already since a couple of months on 14nm.
Zen made on 14nm so q4 seems plausible and I expect early 2017 to be in mass production. Its not like intels 6700k is there to be bought everywhere still....even intel hit a snag on small nodes.

Title is clickbait as usual. There's not even a mention of Q4 in the article, and AMD have said nothing of the sort.

I expect Zen in early to mid summer (Q3).

The only useful thing WCCFTech have published in months is a clarification that Polaris is solely 14nmFF ... AMD responded to a request for clarification - or at least so they say, I assume they wouldn't directly lie about that.

Speaking about AMD’s plans for 2016 in a round table discussion at CES 2016, CEO Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that Zen CPUs are on track to be available by the end of 2016 for high-end desktops. Su expressed her excitement about Zen, explaining that she has personally been inundated with requests from enthusiasts saying “we want Zen sooner” .

Yeah that doesn't really mean anything, its just a confirmation of the original goal to have it before the end of 2016, the didn't say when exactly originally and they haven't this time.

Its just WCCFTech making it up as they go along, as usual.

Only way I can see AMD coming back strong is if this delivers Haswell+, single core performance while offering multi cores (6,8,10) and offers it at a low cost...

I really hope that is the case, but i doubt it somehow.

If it does, Intel would finally have to pull their finger out of their *****

Mind you after all this time you get the feeling Intel has been sandbagging, and probably have something ready to go that blows everything out of the water, should AMD suddenly become hugely competitive again.

I'd expect Zen to easily exceed Skylake in various use cases. Carrizo is highly competitive in a number of them for laptops, and it's on 28nm and the final earth moving architecture. If Zen is as big of an improvement over Excavator as AMD claim, it should be more than competitive.

It doesn't work like that. Intel's roadmap for the next 2 years is pretty much locked (subject to delays or minor revisions). They can't pull a rabbit out of a hat. Hence why the HBM APUs will be so massive for AMD if they can ship them in any volume.

If they can do that they'll fly off the shelves, and seriously disrupt intels whole product stack. Remember, such CPUs from Intel currently start at £310!!

Im thinking AM4 socket will be for some 8 thread CPUs, dont believe, there will be this year more threads than 8. So Zen FX will be fighting against Skylake CPus. Of course, as we know, the single performance will be worse than Intel CPus (these are very strongs in single threads). But I belive for AMD CPU as in Phenom II era (against Core Quad and Lynfields 4c/4t, later 4c/8t with Thubans). So solid performance in practice, similar power consumption.

If AMD don't get similar IPC to Intel they might as well not bother, its all the overwhelming majority care about, they would rather pay the same for an Intel 2 Thread CPU than an AMD 8 thread CPU if its less than 90% per thread performance.
