*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Im liking the price of the 1700 if it isnt to gimped and reacts well to being under water (4ghz+) its the one i will go for cpu, mitx mobo and 16gb ram looks doable for under £600 which will a big upgrade from my 3770k.

My money is going on a 1400X/1500. If the IPC is there it's going to be a cracking combo for <£400

No, your post was too ambiguous to believe that, it simply labelled quadcores as obsolete with the word "legacy".
Yeah, no. We're on an enthusiast forum. It's kind of of obvious what I'm talking about. Dual core are legacy currently in the exact same way I'm talking about. Don't be silly and misunderstand me on purpose.

Yeah, no. This is a computing forum which is aware of many levels of computer users and you are getting your panties twisted because your comment was read without tunnel vision and it's awkward how badly you are reacting to that.

Dual core won't be a legacy technology for a while yet let alone dual core.

The 4 and bit year old i3 3220 I'm using now is perfectly fine for day to day tasks and light gaming duties

I don't think you know what over reacting is. My panties aren't twisted, I'm not wearing any.

I'm not reacting badly at all. You've just completely and purposefully misunderstood what I said.

Not in an absolute sense. I'm talking about the mean usage of the gaming and enthusiast market. The same way people were moving over to the Q6600.

The prices on these new AMD CPUs are very good, and I can see people moving on from quad cores because of them.

Lets put this this way, more than one other person has since posted disagreeing with your use of the word legacy and 4 or less cores.

Its unlikely to be a bandwagon so you badly communicated what you were thinking the first time and I wasn't wrong in taking what you actually said at face value.

The invisible context you believe was there was in fact invisible.

The X version is automatic overclocking like some graphics cards are doing now ? The non X version is still as good but you have to go manage it manually as it lacks that extra module to feedback, is that possible.

so NDA is 28th and they are reviewing them now but unable to say anything at all I guess, hate that bit

I think Intel will inevitably have to respond with short term price cuts. Going longer term - higher core counts for their mainstream platform.

All good. Intel's desktop CPU progression has been pretty uninspiring since the launch of Sandy Bridge. The CPU market has needed a shake up for years.
Intel could be in a good position. At least if Ryzen flops as it'll just justify their already high prices.

Even if Ryzen doesn't they'll release something 10% better and drop the price enough to lure away those who may be tempted to AMD. I know I'd rather get a discount on a new intel chip than plump for a new architecture AMD one. At least initially.

When across the board AMD's chip are half the price of Intel's they are going to have to do a hell of a lot better than reducing prices by 10% to lure now AMD buyers back to Intel

£900 instead of £1000 for the 16 threader? or £450 for the 12 threader when AMD is little over £200? that isn't going to do for me and i own Intel at the moment.

Intel's 6 core would have to be £150 cheaper, and the motherboards would have to be the same price as AMD's.
Edit, miss read that at 1AM, If Intel could just snap their fingers and put a 10% faster CPU on the market they would not be talking about brining Coffee Lake forward to Q4...

Even if, my comments on pricing still stand.

It's easy, if the New AMD CPUs are up to scratch and do what people want then Intel will have to drop prices or be priced out of the market, except for dedicated Intel fan boys lol.

I die one having never owned an AMD CPU will shift if they perform well as money in my pocket is better than theirs.

Basically it's looking like android v's Apple

Don't think anyone is thinking Intel will lose top performance claim. All about seeing if AMD can claim performance/cost and quite possibly performance/watt too while also managing to have competitive performance overall.

http://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-reviews-live-february-28th-testers-receiving-samples/

Hardware sites now received retail Ryzen CPUs samples and reviews will go live on 28 Feb.

14 days to go so we probably will see some reviews benchmarks leak this week or next week.

So excited for the 28th now. I'll be reading as many reviews of Ryzen chips as I possibly can. I want to make sure I make the correct decision. Hopefully motherboard reviews will come out on the 28th as well so I'll be able to order my perfect system as soon as everything is available to buy.

Same here, it's like Christmas for tech enthusiasts :D

Plus the fact that all Ryzen chips are unlocked. All except the top-tier 0th generation Core i7s were locked.
Technically speaking they were all unlocked too, the multipliers may have been fixed but the FSB wasn't so they could be overclocked by 1.5GHz+
