*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

i just watched the video.lol.it killed nothing only on price.
91.6 vs 112 seconds for the multitasking... yeah, super close.

The 6800k took 22.5% longer, it was 22.5% slower while costing $100 more, or about 30% more. Not destroying there, almost identical performance, almost identical price, almost identical performance/value ratio.

Very saddening, speaking with Corsair and Kingston they are saying the trend is an uptrend for the whole year. :(

Sad times when we were offering 32GB kits six months ago for £80. :(

Thanks for that information, it might be worth picking kits up now instead of waiting. I want to build new systems in May/June time so if they'll be more expensive then I might just get it now.

Gibbo, I'm guessing that you will be allowing motherboards to be preordered today as well? Also, being OCUK I presume you've got most of the decent boards in?

Where is the preorder option Gibbo :D

And looking around i will end up bying Gskill memory from someone since OCUK des not sell em anymore :( And all other sticks id want are OUT OF STOCK :(

1700x 95W 3.4Ghz base, 3.8Ghz boost, + XFR. 1700 65W 3Ghz base, 3.7Ghz boost - XFR - $70. Fact is, XFR doesn't really mean anything, overclocking manually will be the way to go... up the TDP, voltage and clocks on a 1700.

Sweet so it looks like the 1700 will be the price/performance king. For some reason my eyes were drawn to the 1700x. Thanks dg

Oh, maybe the most important thing for the weirdos that love lights in there case. The stock cooler has RGB :o

Though they didn't say which stock cooler, maybe only the more expensive Wraith one(if true and the X come with a different cooler).

Been skim reading as the thread is moving too fast to keep up so apologies if this has already been asked, but is the whole range going on preorder or is it just the top end ones? (Or does no one know yet?)

dg? :o

Price performance, for overclocking, probably. For stock the 1700X is only $70 more and at 95W stock likely maintains much higher clocks under 8-16threads of heavy loading, though in gaming that 3.64Ghz on the 1700 within 65W is down right amazing.

It's also possible(though i think improbable) that the -X chips actually are binned and work much better at higher voltages and overclock further. If that turned out to be the case and say the 1700X overclocks on average 400Mhz or something better than the 1700, then $70 extra isn't bad, more so if it comes with a better cooler as well.

Just the top 3 models. (R7 8c16t)

The R5 and R3 line are coming later, how much later, we don't 100% know yet.

only listing leaks so far are the 1700 and up, so it sounds like its only top end straight away. There might be a surprise tho *shrugs*
