*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

All of these bang for buck comparisons to 6900K are a bit meaningless, it's not like Intel are going to keep current prices once they have competition.
This is true. But no matter how far they drop its going to look extremely bad on their part for charging so much. Not to mention those who have recently spent £1000,£5-600 on 6900k,6850k,6800k etc.

It will be even worse for intel if AMD's ryzen chips actually outperform all current intel versions.

But this is pretty much why everyone on here wanted AMD to pull it off. Even if you are an AMD fan or Intel fan this is great for everyone if it forces Intel to drop their prices.

Various other leaks and the video posted above he only 5.1 under nitrogen. I would link but I'm on mobile. I'm using a Corsair h100i so nothing like nitrogen but I'll be happy with 4.2 or above.

Please do when you get a chance. I am hoping for 4.5 on an AIO cooler as that's what I am on with my 3570k currently.

Looking at LN2 results won't say much if Ryzen has some cold bug for example.

Edit!!

Considering that most of the SKUs Intel sell in the Core i5 and Core i7 lines are locked and have under 4GHZ base frequencies I don't think AMD is in such a bad situation.

Linus video at the end showed the 6900K with TitanX SLI vs the 1700 (non X) with TitanX SLI and the AMD Rig had higher FPS on average. So while its GPU bound mostly its still seeing better performance off the AMD chip and that was not even the top chip, it was the entry 8/16.

Thought it had been rumored lately that the Zen chips did not suffer from this? pretty sure i read this on AT forums and Reddit. From what i gather the 1800X boosts to 4.1 on the stock cooler, so i think it will probably go to 4.3 on a decent AIO / high end air cooler, cant see it going much further, probably upto 4.5 tops under water?

Nice one OCuK, Free advertising there for you:

TBH,as long as AMD can get roughly to 4GHZ with XFR on many parts, just because Intel can get a bit higher is not really a concern, especially looking at how Ryzen is being positioned.

Just watched this.... wow, its AMD's own setup but it still looks compelling, at this point i don't have any doubts about even low threaded performance, it was out performing a 6800K by some FPS, which yes is not a 7700K but how much faster would that be in gaming that a 6800K, not huge amounts so the 1700X in gaming is probably up there with it.

This is impressive stuff.

People saying 5.1Ghz on LN isn't that good. Bear in mind this is the 8c/16t (i.e. the equivalent to intel 6900k). On HWBOT the highest 6900k appears to be 5.2Ghz so not that much different

Yep Intel look to have shot themselves in the foot ...AMD have just made them look very greedy ..

But its ok Intel have the 4K Netflix support ... that alone demands a premium ...yah right ...:D

I'm hoping for around 4.2 - 4.4GHz when paired with my big air cooler. If it will do that and has no other major flaws then I will be having one.

Surely it will be a concern if they both have the same clock for clock performance, AMD only hit 4ghz, 6900K hits ~4.2ghz and Intel match them on price? although Intel X99 boards will likely need to come down as well.

Fair point. I guess we've all got 5ghz in our brains because of these kabylakes been touted around these forums.
