*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

At least we know RyZen can overclock to match a 4.5Ghz KabyLake core for core.

How much does your average Kabylake OC over 4.5Ghz? 8 to 10%? meh.....

Is the NDA up tomorrow or Thursday?

I really want to see some reviews.
No one knows, just assume Thursday, its only a few days away.

Feel free to correct me but ~1:45 into this video states that general embargo isn't lifted until 9AM Eastern of the 2nd.
He does say the embargo is only about the next presentations but I can't fathom why they would embargo presentations past the other general benchmark release date.

My feeling is the 1800x is already at the limit and max 4.2Ghz is available, but 1700 might be better choice as It will prob hit 4ghz - 4.1ghz, which has been confimed already.
As a company do you think AMD would have kept much in the tank. This 100mhz XFR is for the average Joe to say I can overclock it. To get 8 cores to 4.2ghz is quite a massive achievement in my book. I would like to know now in the reviews if the lower boards allow you to that without forking out for the Crosshair.
If you watch the second video of the presentation lol 3 AMD techs managed to blue screen at 4.1ghz on all cores under water. Not on the air cooler they supplied.

Mind you they were clocking within windows. It will be nice to know what can be achieved by bios instead.

Allegedly there are features of the RyZen not yet released which is what the X is about - details on the 2nd.

Could it just be that the X models can overclock in 0.25x multipliers rather than 1x? I'm sure I've seen that somewhere related to the XFR on 1700 vs 1700X/1800X... I think it was gibbo before he got abducted

Which CB have just about confirmed with an update to their CPU scaling article:
Artikel-Update: Der Artikel wurde auf vielfachen Wunsch um Benchmarks zum Intel Core i5-7600K,
dem aktuell schnellsten Core i5 mit vier Kernen ohne Hyper-Threading, ergänzt.
Das eröffnet auch eine weitere Perspektive für den für Donnerstag angesetzten Test von Ryzen.

The underlined reads: for Thursday's test of Ryzen.
Guess it's not tomorrow the 28th then.

That's a bit strange for there to be officially sanctioned preorders (promoted by Lisa Su in her presentation) while at the same time holding back info on the comparative features of the 3 chips.
Have to agree, it is bizarre there is so much conflicting information. It's probably due to AMD's rubbish marketing department.
I don't think they can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this time though. :p

How is Gibbo anyway? are AMD treating him in accordance with the Geneva Convention? and will he be released back us after the embargo?

I have heard from my source at AMD about Gibbo. He will be released after the embargo but the horrifying news is it won't be the real Gibbo it's going to be a Gibbo clone.
