*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Pretty spectacular cpus by amd, very impressed by the reviews and numbers.

If I didn't already have a 5930k system would definetely be moving over to AMD.

Glad to see some genuine competition in the market, think I will be supporting amd come upgrade time if they keep this up.

I am a bit surprised about how negative the vibe is in this thread, I think its pretty good value for money and I am looking forward to getting my 1700.

It turns out if you turn Windows power options from normal to high performance you also gain performance as without doing that the CPU is not boosting properly, if at all, MS power saving interference with how the CPU is meant to work.

Teething problems with Motherboards and Memory compatibility resulting in low clocked RAM and lose timings....

It seems problematic at the moment, with those problems sorted it should gain 15 or 20% gaming performance, which would put it in line with how it performs in everyother aspect.

This absolutely perfect for me am loving it really I run a lot of VMs on my rig for testing and this is just up my street. And gaming is just perfect for my needs as i am not a hardcore gamer

Obviously performance is very important, but lets not forget the prices of these chips - AMD deserve a lot of kudos!

Another good point by RavenXXX2, while all the current focus is on max fps, how does min fps compare?

I understand i have done the same taken 3 days off ....you have the same cpu as me in your current pc

If that's your pc in the sig then i would use that and sit it out see how things settle ...

that's what i am doing ..what i am not happy about is when you OC these ryzen the wattage go's very high this is why these are at the clock speed at stock

re having something to do as i know its nice to be doing a build having taken the days off
I have just gone down to the hobby shop and bought an air fix spitfire mk 1 :)

I'm very happy with the apparent value of the 1700. The OC3D video review shows you can just bang it up to 4GHz all cores overclock in a midrange X370 board (Asus Prime) :)

Looks amazing to me, I am baffled by anyone saying this is disappointing. AMD exceeded my expectations by a long way.

Spanks Intel's overpriced 6 core+ line up. Competitive in gaming especially with SMT off, so future BIOS could make this better.

Went for R7 1700 and ASUS MATX.

Just watched TTL's 1800x review and while it still is a CPU that is fantastic bang for buck, very impressed with what AMD have achieved. I couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed.

Put the CPU at stock and load all cores up and it would sit at 3.5-3.6ghz. Overclocked it would sit at 3.9. Couldn't get it any further than 4ghz with the temps mid 80's with a h110 gt.

Something's not right with that system. My hunch is the motherboard's not reporting the temps correctly. I'd expect 8 core at over 80c to be noticeable amount of heat.

Anyway looks like a pair of Ryzen systems for me as AMD have pulled a blinder with the 8 core.

My 1230v5 system can stay. Vega graphics card upgrade for that I think.
